First Trailer for JANIE JONES Starring Abigail Breslin

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: September 1st, 2011 at 5:54 pm

The first trailer for the drama Janie Jones has been released. The film centers on a musician whose life is turned upside down when a daughter he never knew he had is left in his custody. Abigail Breslin and Alessandro Nivola star as the daughter and father, with Elizabeth Shue and Peter Stormare in supporting roles. Breslin looks to be in fine form here, and the tone seems like a cross between Crazy Heart and Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere. It doesn’t appear to be as interesting as those two films, and the trailer’s fairly predictable, but the performances look to be promising.
Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film opens nationwide and VOD on October 28.

Anna Kendrick in Talks to Join PITCH PERFECT

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: September 1st, 2011

Actress Anna Kendrick (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) is in early negotiations to join the romantic comedy Pitch Perfect. THR has the casting news for the film, which centers on the romance between two members of dueling collegiate a capella teams. If Kendrick signs on, she’ll play the goth-like and rebellious lead who finds the vocal group to be an escape from her unhappy school life. Rebel Wilson, who had a small but memorable role as Kristin Wiig’s roommate in Bridesmaids, is set to star in the film as an a capella group member named Fat Amy. Avenue Q‘s Jason Moore is directing the pic, which is an adaptation of Mickey Rapkin’s nonfiction book of the same name.
Kendrick’s breakout (and Academy Award-nominated) performance came with Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air, and I’ve been a fan of hers ever since. She stars in the upcoming “cancer comedy” 50/50 with Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt that opens September 30, and will also appear in What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Hit the jump to read a synopsis of Pitch Perfect. Production begins this fall. .......... http://collider.com/anna-kendrick-pitch-perfect/112629/

Ed Helms to Star in Remake of French Comedy LE MAC

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: September 1st, 2011

Usually relegated to a strong but supporting role in a number of comedies as of late, Ed Helms has nabbed the lead role in the remake of the French comedy Le Mac. Variety reports that Helms will topline the remake and produce alongside Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films. Directed by Pascal Bourdeaux, the 2010 original film centered on a mild-mannered banker who was forced to masquerade as a notorious gangster and pimp. Johnny Rosenthal, who was recently tapped to pen the sequel to Bad Santa, sold the pitch and will write the screenplay himself.
After his starmaking turns in The Hangover and on The Office, Helms was recently front and center in the indie comedy Cedar Rapids alongside John C. Reilly and Anne Heche. He also has a role in the upcoming Jason Segel-starred comedy Jeff Who Lives at Home and will be lending his voice to The Lorax. ..............

First Official Synopsis for Ben Affleck’s ARGO

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: September 1st, 2011

Ben Affleck’s Argo began shooting today.  The film has a killer cast that includes Affleck, Alan Arkin, Bryan Cranston, and John Goodman, Kyle Chandler, Rory Cochrane, Victor Garber, Richard Kind, and Michael Parks.  I don’t really care about press releases announcing that filming has commenced (what’s newsworthy is when it looks like filming will commence and then it doesn’t), but this press release includes the first official synopsis for the movie.  Check it out:
Based on true events, “Argo” chronicles the life-or-death covert operation to rescue six Americans, which unfolded behind the scenes of the Iran hostage crisis—the truth of which was unknown by the public for decades.  On November 4, 1979, as the Iranian revolution reaches its boiling point, militants storm the U.S. embassy in Tehran, taking 52 Americans hostage. But, in the midst of the chaos, six Americans manage to slip away and find refuge in the home of the Canadian ambassador. Knowing it is only a matter of time before the six are found out and likely killed, a CIA “exfiltration” specialist named Tony Mendez (Affleck) comes up with a risky plan to get them safely out of the country. A plan so incredible, it could only happen in the movies.
Okay, so that doesn’t point out that his plan is to use a fake movie as cover for the operation, but that’s the hook.  Affleck co-wrote the script with Good Night and Good Luck. screenwriter Grant Heslov.  Hit the jump for the full press release which includes a rundown of the behind-the-camera talent.

Trailer and Poster for MARGARET Starring Anna Paquin and Matt Damon

The trailer and poster for Kenneth Lonergan’s Margaret have gone online.  The long-awaited and long-delayed follow-up to Lonergan’s You Can Count on Me, Margaret centers on a high school student (Anna Paquin) who discovers that watching Alison Janney get hit by a bus will really throw you for a loop.  There’s definitely going to be a tough balance here between hitting honest emotions of a teenager who witnesses and feels responsible for a tragedy and going too melodramatic.  Hopefully Lonergan and his excellent cast, which also includes Mark Ruffalo and Matt Damon, can keep the story grounded.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and poster.  The film also stars J. Smith-Cameron, Jean Reno, Jeannie Berlin, and Matthew Broderick.  Margaret opens September 30th.

Trailer for "Margaret" with Anna Paquin and Matt Damon

Posted: September 1st, 2011 by WorstPreviews.com Staff

Trailer for Margaret with Anna Paquin and Matt Damon
"Margaret" has been in the works since 2006, but it is only that we get a trailer as Fox Searchlight is finally planning to release the film. It stars Anna Paquin, Matt Damon, Mark Ruffalo, Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno, Allison Janney and Kieran Culkin. Check out the trailer below.

Plot: "Margaret" centers on a 17-year-old New York City high-school student (Paquin) who feels certain that she inadvertently played a role in a traffic accident that has claimed a woman's life. In her attempts to set things right she meets with opposition at every step. Torn apart with frustration, she begins emotionally brutalizing her family, her friends, her teachers, and most of all, herself. She has been confronted quite unexpectedly with a basic truth: that her youthful ideals are on a collision course against the realities and compromises of the adult world.

The new movie is written and directed by Kenneth Lonergan (writer of "Gangs of New York" and "Analyze This"), and is set to get a limited theatrical release on September 30th.
