Amy Adams in Talks for "The Orphanage" Remake

Posted: September 1st, 2011 by Staff

We've been hearing about a remake of the Spanish-language supernatural film "The Orphanage" since 2007. Bloody-Disgusting has now learned that New Line Cinema is searching for the lead actress to join the team of director Mark Pellington (Arlington Road, The Mothman Prophecies) and producer Guillermo del Toro.

According to the site, the studio is in talks with Amy Adams to star as Laura, a woman who takes over the orphanage where she was raised, to open a home for disabled children. Then her young son begins to play with the same imaginary friend who terrorized her when she was a child.

Adams is a 3-time Academy Award nominee and has starred in such films as "Enchanted," "Doubt" and "The Fighter." She will soon be seen in "Man of Steel" an "The Muppets."

Tom Hiddleston And Rachel Weisz Hit The Dance Floor In First Clip From The Deep Blue Sea

published: 2011-09-01 12:04:54 Author: Eric Eisenberg
Tom Hiddleston is having one hell of a breakout year. In addition to starring as the villain of one of the summer's biggest international blockbusters, 2011 marks the year that he worked with great directors such as Steven Spielberg (the upcoming War Horse), Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris) and Kenneth Branagh (Thor). And now he gets to slow dance with Rachel Weisz in Terence Davies' The Deep Blue Sea? It doesn't get better than that.

Don't be fooled: just because the title stars with "The" (a la The Final Destination) don't expect to see any genetically modified sharks in this film. Instead, the story is about a woman named Hester Collyer (Weisz), the wife of a judge, who begins having an affair with a Royal Air Force pilot (Hiddleston). Check out the first clip, via The Playlist, below.

Johnny Depp Tells Disney He Won't Make Lone Ranger Without Gore Verbinski

Reportedly, Johnny Depp has issued an ultimatum to Disney regarding the suddenly stalled production of The Lone Ranger, and now the studio has to decide if it wants to meet the actor’s demands or pull the plug on what has become a troubled production.

Depp told Disney that he will not do Lone Ranger without his Pirates of the Caribbean collaborator Gore Verbinski at the helm, Deadline reports. The problem for Disney is that Verbinski had given them a budget number in the ballpark of $275 million to make the movie he sees in his head … and that figure (rightfully) caused the studio to pump the brakes.

Deadline notes that Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer were preparing to bring a slimmed-down budget to Walt Disney Studios Chairman Rich Ross in the vicinity of $215 million, which is closer to the $200M number the studio requested. So the ball is about to land in Disney’s court. Do they want to gamble on Verbinski, or do they want to lose their star? Sources say there’s no way Disney wants to do Lone Ranger without Depp. But the studio’s now growing concerned over the selected release date of Dec. 21, 2012. That gives Verbinski, or whomever directs, a tight window. It also puts Lone Ranger against Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit and Brad Pitt’s sci-fi zombie thriller World War Z. At D23, Ross told Deadline that he remains in the Bruckheimer and Depp business. Now we’re going to see how much he’s willing to spend to stay in that business.

Three More Stars Added To The Cast Of Burton's Dark Shadows

Dark Shadows has been in the works for nearly four years, getting the initial push towards the big screen by long-time fan of the series Johnny Depp. Since then, it’s been a slow but steady crawl towards production and now the film has finally started shooting in the U.K. with director Tim Burton, who has been attached to the vampire soap opera adaptation since late 2008.

The cast is already packed with talent, but according to THR, three more big names have been added to round out the team. Johnny Lee Miller, who recently starred as a big bad serial killer in Dexter, or as I like to call him “Crash Override”, has joined up as Roger Collins, who is turned into a vampire by Depp’s Barnabas Collins, his own cousin. Also signed on is the much older than her years Chloe Grace Moretz (Let Me In, Kick-Ass) who will play Carolyn Stoddard, Roger’s neice.

The final no-duh-addition is Helena Bonham Carter, Burton’s long time collaborator, girlfriend, and mother of his children. Their last outing together was last year’s mildly atrocious Alice in Wonderland that couldn’t even be saved by Burton’s stunning visuals. The pair have been working together for a long time, but Carter has admitted that Burton always makes her audition for her roles.

Dark Shadows’ cast list is star studded to say the least. These three stars join Depp, Jackie Earle Haley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Christopher Lee and many more for this adaptation of the 60s cult classic TV soap opera. If all goes well, this could easily be the start of a lucrative franchise for everyone involved since the show has, not exaggerating, over 1200 episodes to draw from. Now that production is beginning, stay tuned for more news from the U.K. as shooting kicks into high gear.

Stoker Begins Shooting in Nashville
Scott Free Productions, Fox Searchlight Pictures and Indian Paintbrush announced today that principal photography for the psychological thriller Stoker has begun in Nashville, Tennessee. The film stars Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman with Dermot Mulroney and Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver.

In his first English language film, celebrated Korean director Chan-wook Park (Oldboy, Thirst) will direct from an original screenplay by the former Prison Break star Wentworth Millr, who wrote his inaugural script under the pseudonym Ted Foulke. Stoker is being produced by Scott Free Productions' Tony Scott, Ridley Scott and Michael Costigan with Steven M. Rales and Mark Roybal of Indian Paintbrush serving as executive producers. Indian Paintbrush is co-financing the film with Fox Searchlight Pictures who will be releasing the film worldwide.

After India's (Wasikowska) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

Claudia Lewis, President of Production, David Greenbaum, Senior Vice President of Production and DanTram Nguyen, Director of Production are overseeing the project.
