Trailer for MACHINE GUN PREACHER Starring Gerard Butler

by Jason Barr   Posted: August 18th, 2011

The theatrical trailer for director Marc Forster’s (Monster’s Ball and Quantum of Solace) Machine Gun Preacher has hit the interwebs. Starring Gerard Butler, Michelle Monaghan, and Michael Shannon, the film tells the true story of Sam Childers (Butler), a former drug-dealer who goes on to save the lives of hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned kids in Sudan. While I can’t claim to be Butler’s biggest fan, I have to say that he looks to be in his element in Preacher as a hardened guy who wants to do the right thing the only way he knows how: through violence. Add that in with the fact that I’ve enjoyed much of Forster’s previous work, and Machine Gun Preacher is a film I’m looking forward to watching.
Check out the trailer after the jump. Machine Gun Preacher will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival next month and opens theatrically on September 23rd.

New posters for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Melancholia, and Abduction are now available online. Beginning with Ghost Rider, the film stars Nicolas Cage, Idris Elba, and Ciaran Hinds. The pic centers on Cage’s reprised Johnny Blaze who, while kicking it in Eastern Europe, is called upon to stop the Devil (Hinds) from taking human form. Although I prefer the teaser promos found at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, this new sheet seems effective enough in positioning the film as a grittier take on the character than its predecessor. The new Melancholia poster is essentially the full, hi-res shot of a Kirsten Dunst image we seen back in April while the Abduction sheet features star Taylor Lautner running from a city skyline.
Check out each of the posters after the jump. Directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance opens on February 17th, 2012. Written/directed by Lars von Trier, Melancholia will hit VOD platforms on October 7th before opening in theaters on November 11th. Directed by John Singleton, Abduction will be released on September 23rd.

Tony Scott to Direct Remake of THE WILD BUNCH, Wants Jeff Bridges for HELL’S ANGELS

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: August 18th, 2011

Following today’s fairly shocking news that Ridley Scott is set to direct a follow-up to his sci-fi classic Blade Runner, Ridley’s brother Tony is now gearing up for a remake of the 1969 film The Wild Bunch.  Scott is in talks to helm a reboot of the classic, which tells the story of an aging outlaw gang on the Texas-Mexico border. Jerry Weintraub (Ocean’s Eleven) is producing and Brian Helgeland (L.A. Confidential) is writing the screenplay.
The Wild Bunch isn’t the only film on Scott’s plate at the moment, as he has quite a few projects that he’s currently mulling over. The director’s follow-up to Unstoppable looks to be the non-train-on-the-loose pic Hell’s Angels, which centers around the 2001 Laughlin riots when the Angels were caught up in a war with a rival gang. Hit the jump for more details on Hell’s Angels, including the possible casting of Jeff Bridges, and updates on Scott’s other projects.

Teaser Trailer for Michael Winterbottom’s TRISHNA Starring Freida Pinto

by Jason Barr   Posted: August 18th, 2011

A teaser trailer for director Michael Winterbottom’s (The Killer Inside Me) drama Trishna has landed online. Starring Freida Pinto and Riz Ahmed, the film is an adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the d’Urbervilles set against a contemporary Indian backdrop. For those unfamiliar, Trishna centers on the relationship between a rickshaw driver’s daughter (Pinto) and the son of a wealthy property developer (Ahmed). As you can probably guess, their vastly different socioeconomic backgrounds do not make a happy, healthy relationship all that easy to come by.
The film features original songs from Indian musician Amit Trivedi as well as an original score by Shigeru Umebayashi (House of Flying Daggers). If this cut is any indication, the contributions of each of these musicians are at the forefront of the film. Check out the teaser trailer for yourself after the jump. Trishna will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9th. ..................

Shawn Levy May Drop FANTASTIC VOYAGE If He Can’t Get Will Smith to Star

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: August 18th, 2011

Back in February, we reported that Shawn Levy was the latest director to board the James Cameron-produced 3D remake of Fantastic Voyage.  The original 1966 film was about a group of scientists who shrink down into a miniature submarine and enter the body of an important diplomat in order to save his life. The new project would be expensive (of course) but could also be a big hit for Fox with James Cameron’s pedigree (look how it worked out for Sanctum!) and Levy’s track record with the studio (the Night at the Museum movies, Cheaper by the Dozen, Date Night).  But Levy wants a big name star and originally was courting his Real Steel leading man Hugh Jackman.
Levy is reportedly getting impatient at the project’s lack of momentum (big budget blockbusters can require time to get off the ground?  Who knew!) and now he wants Will Smith to star…or else.  Hit the jump for more and why this is insane.
