Noah Oppenheim to Write WARGAMES Remake

by Brendan Bettinger   Posted: August 20th, 2011

The 1983 film WarGames is well-suited for an update—the vast advancement in video game technology in the past three decades opens the door for a fresh take on the material.  According to Heat Vision, MGM has hired Noah Oppenheim for the task.  The up-and-coming screenwriter does not yet have a produced credit, but he has several projects in development.  There’s the Snabba Cash remake, a Jackie Kennedy biopic produced by Steven Spielberg, an adaptation of The Maze Runner, and the wonderfully titled The Secret Life of Houdini.  I’ll wait to see one of these movies before I praise him too much, but there’s something to be said for a screenwriter who convinces so many employers of his greatness.  Plus, it is appropriate that a man named Oppenheim will write the movie about a boy who nearly starts a nuclear war when he thinks he’s playing a video game.
Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) will direct WarGames for MGM.  Read about his approach to the remake after the jump.

THOR 2 Director Brian Kirk Circling Rodeo Drama PAPER WINGS; Tom Cruise May Star

by Jeff Ames    Posted: August 20th, 2011

What do you do when you’re offered the chance to direct Thor 2? You agree to direct a cowboy movie. At least that’s the vibe I’m getting from this latest news, courtesy of Variety, who claim Game of Thrones director Brian Kirk is circling Paper Wings, a rodeo drama about a rootin’ tootin’ bull riding champ who falls in love with a country singer. Think 8 Seconds meets Pure Country meets Top Gun. And speaking of Top Gun, word is Maverick himself has stepped in and offered his services on the project, going so far as to select Kirk for the gig. He may even star in the film. More after the jump.

Photos: Superman Spotted on "Man of Steel" Set

Posted: August 20th, 2011 by Staff

Today we have several new photos from the set of the upcoming "Superman" reboot, called "Man of Steel." The photos show Superman at a destroyed Kent Farm. The destruction is likely courtesy of a tornado.

There are a few odd things about the photos. Even though there are plenty of shots, it's impossible to tell whether the actor is Henry Cavill. The reason for this is because the crew was constantly holding a black cloth in front of his face at all times. They weren't trying to hide the suit, just the actor's face. What this means is not yet clear.

Looking at the suit, you can see that there is no "S" shield on the cape and there are no red trunks. And thanks to IGN, we also have shots of a crater in the cornfield where baby Kal-El's ship crash-landed. Check everything out below.

"The Long Kiss Goodnight" Sequel is Moving Forward

Posted: August 20th, 2011 by Staff

While promoting "5 Days of War," director Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger, Die Hard 2) revealed that the only sequel he would ever want to make is a sequel to "The Long Kiss Goodnight." We have been talking about the follow-up for years, but it's only now that Harlin has become serious about it.

"I just came back from Miami where I directed an episode of 'Burn Notice,'" said the director. "I really like that series so I went to direct an episode, and the writer of the episode was Ben Watkins, who is one of the producers of the show. I had read quite a bit of his stuff, and he turned out to be a giant fan of ['The Long Kiss Goodnight'] so we started talking, and we decided we're going to do it together."

Regarding the story, Harlin explained: "Charlie's daughter, who was six in the original, she's now twenty one. In the opening sequence Geena's character is killed under mysterious circumstances, and her daughter hooks up with Samuel L. Jackson to find out the truth. He's totally game for it, and I'm trying to get that made now."

Jessica Biel is a Stripper Again in Steven Soderbergh's "Magic Mike"

Posted: August 19th, 2011 by Staff

Jessica Biel recently played a stripper in "Powder Blue" and has now signed on to play a stripper again in Steven Soderbergh's "Magic Mike," which stars Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer and Matthew McConaughey.

Tatum stars as the title character, a stripper and dancer who takes Pettyfer's character under his wing and mentors him on how to hustle both on and off the stage. McConaughey will play Dallas, a former exotic dancer who now owns and operates Xquisite, the club where Tatum works.

Biel will play Amber, a stripper who is the lover of Mike Martingano (Tatum). Lisa Marie Presley's 21-year-old daughter Riley Keough has also joined the cast as a stripper named Zora, a role that Soderbergh initially considered giving to Lindsay Lohan. He eventually changed his mind and was quoted saying that he decided "not to go there."
