Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and Tye Sheridan in Talks for Jeff Nichols’ MUD

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: August 5th, 2011

Director Jeff Nichols is looking at a trio of actors to star in his next film. Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and The Tree of Life star Tye Sheridan are in negotiations to join Mud. Nichols is best known for 2007’s Shotgun Stories starring Michael Shannon, and most recently debuted his film Take Shelter (also starring Shannon) at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Mud centers on a dangerous fugitive aptly-named Mud who strikes up an unlikely friendship with a 14-year-old boy in Mississippi. The boy decides to help the nice criminal escape the police and some pesky bounty hunters.
Chris Pine had been in talks to take on the role of the title character, but Variety now reports that McConaughey is eying the role. Sheridan will play the boy, while Witherspoon will play Mud’s soulmate who he’s trying to reunite with. Everest Entertainment is fully financing the film and company founder Lisa Maria Falcone will produce. You can read Matt’s review of Take Shelter here.

New Trailer for Roland Emmerich’s ANONYMOUS

by Matt Goldberg  Posted: August 5th, 2011

A new trailer for Roland Emmerich’s Anonymous has gone online.  Like the previous trailer, there’s the poor decision to use Radiohead’s “Everything in Its Right Place”, but we also get a better explanation of the plot.  The movie isn’t simply about the controversial theory that William Shakespeare didn’t write his own plays.  The controversy is wrapped up in a much larger period drama involving political intrigue and how the plays were used to criticize the monarchy while protecting the identities of the true authors.  The larger question isn’t whether or not Shakespeare wrote his plays and poems, but if a big-budget director like Emmerich can go through an entire movie without destroying a revered building or monument.
Hit the jump to check out the new trailer.  The film stars Jamie Campbell Bower, Rhys Ifans, David Thewlis, Joely Richardson, and Vanessa Redgrave.  Anonymous will play at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and hit theaters on October 28th. .........

New Set Photos of Catwoman in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: August 5th, 2011

So it looks like Warner Bros. barely got out ahead of all the Catwoman set photos that are about to leak online.  I’m sure Nolan and Co. are trying to keep the production as secret as possible but when you’re filming out doors and people have camera phones, it’s a bit of an inevitably.  Thankfully, we don’t really know the context of these scenes and I don’t intend to find out until the advertising spoils all of it for me.
Hit the jump to check out Selina Kyle/Catwoman using the Bat-pod to race through what appears to be a riot.  The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.  Click here for the set photos of Bane fighting Batman. [Update: The astute Matt Patches (@misterpatches) makes the good point that this is probably Hathaway's stunt double.  It's tough to tell under the goggles.] .

First Official Image of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: August 5th, 2011

Yesterday, we got our first look at Henry Cavill as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.  Today, Warner Bros. has released the first official image of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises.  I hope we’re not looking at the final Catwoman costume since there’s nothing particularly cat-like about it.  It looks like Anne Hathaway was watching 3DTV and left her glasses on when she hopped on the Bat-pod.  I’ve over-analyze this image more, but I leave that to you good people.  I imagine that Catwoman scenes are about to start filming in the streets of Pittsburgh and Warners wanted to get an official image out before all the cell-phone snappers started releasing low-quality versions for us to dissect.  We’re still going to do that anyway just like we did with these set photos of Bane fighting Batman.
Hit the jump to check out the full image and more of my thoughts on the design.  The film also stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine.  The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20, 2012.

First Look: Anne Hathaway as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises
Warner Bros has released the first official photo of Anne Hathaway in the full Catwoman outfit from "The Dark Knight Rises." The reason for the unveil is out of fear that the first photos of Catwoman would end up being shots taken by fans in the Pittsburgh area, where filming is taking place.

So now that Hathaway has started shooting her scenes, photos of her stunt double are appearing online. They once again feature Catwoman on the Batpod, but from different angles.

And since it's hard to ignore all the buzz around "The Dark Knight Rises," Conan O'Brien decided to unveil some set footage as well. It features Batman hitting Catwoman with the Tumbler. Check out the video and all the photos below.

Roland Emmerich's New "Anonymous" Trailer

Posted: August 5th, 2011 by Staff

Columbia Pictures has unveiled a brand new trailer for their upcoming Shakespeare thriller "Anonymous," which stars Rhys Ifans and Vanessa Redgrave. Check it out below.

Plot: The film tries to answer the question: Who was the author of the plays credited to William Shakespeare? Experts have debated, books have been written, and scholars have devoted their lives to protecting or debunking theories. "Anonymous" poses one possible answer, focusing on a time when cloak-and-dagger political intrigue, illicit romances in the Royal Court, and the schemes of greedy nobles hungry for the power of the throne were exposed in the most unlikely of places: the London stage.

"Anonymous" is directed by Roland Emmerich, the man behind "Independence Day," "Godzilla," "The Day After Tomorrow," and "2012." It is scheduled to hit theaters on October 28th.

Green Band Trailer For The Sitter Tones Down The Language

published: 2011-08-05 17:57:49 Author: Eric Eisenberg
If you watched the red band trailer that premiered yesterday for David Gordon Green's The Sitter, you automatically know that this is a movie that is not going to necessarily appeal to all four quadrants. Even before the footage begins to roll you hear a woman orgasming and then explaining to Jonah Hill that nice guys give the best head. The movie is clearly targeting an all-adult audience, so how will the humor transfer to the less raunchy green band format?

Yahoo! has posted the first non-curse-word-filled look at the second Gordon Green film of the year, which sees Hill playing a young adult who is on suspension from college. Needing to get a job, he begrudgingly accepts a babysitting gig, but doesn't realize that he's in for the most insane night of his life. The film co-stars Sam Rockwell, J.B. Smoove, Ari Graynor, Method Man and Max Records.

Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon Throw Their Names Into Mud

published: 2011-08-05 13:44:29 Author: Sean O'Connell
Considering the number of romantic comedies Matthew McConaughey has on his resume (seriously, the man is a rom-com machine) it’s pretty amazing that he has yet to share the screen with Reese Witherspoon. The two will rectify the situation when they team up for Mud, a drama written and directed by Jeff Nichols.

The original screenplay centers on a charismatic fugitive named Mud (McConaughey) who forges an unlikely friendship with a 14-year-old boy named Ellis (Tye Sheridan) and embarks on a journey to reunite with his soul mate, Juniper (Witherspoon). Along the way, the encounter bounty hunters, law enforcement officials, and other obstacles that no doubt will bring this unique trio closer together.

“Jeff Nichols has written a beautiful story with rich characters learning valuable lessons through life-changing circumstances," says Lisa Maria Falcone, founder of Everest Entertainment, which will finance the picture. "With Jeff’s vision, this will be a work of art."

Soul mates? Precocious teenage sidekicks? Yes, my stomach is turning a little. But Everest Entertainment previously bankrolled Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours and Tom McCarthy’s
Win Win, and based on those two titles alone I’m willing to listen to any story they feel compelled to tell. Add that to the fact that Nichols is receiving great buzz for the Sundance hit Take Shelter, which stars Michael Shannon staring down the Apocalypse. McConaughey is coming off of a solid turn in The Lincoln Lawyer, while Witherspoon’s an Oscar winner who’s always capable of turning in a strong performance. Here’s hoping Mud clears up to be a compelling, character-driven piece we all can get behind. ..........
