New Set Photos from THE AVENGERS
by Adam Chitwood Posted: August 13th, 2011
Three ginormous superhero productions are currently filming across the country: The Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel and The Avengers. While it’s exciting to know that these movies are one step closer to being released into theaters for all of us to judge see, we’re also suffering from a bit of a set photo bonanza. The productions are filming a number of scenes on location, which is great for the finished film, but that also means that passersby have been snapping photos every chance they get. I love enthusiasm, but I’d rather not see each of these highly anticipated movies piece-by-piece by way of Joe Schmo’s shitty camera zoom over the next year.
That being said, it’s our job to cover this news, and today we’ve got some new set photos from The Avengers! Actually, the images only show crews doing prep work for some big destruction-type scene set to film next week in Cleveland (which is doubling for New York City), so they’re extremely minor on spoilers. If you’re inclined to see some of the street destruction we can expect from Joss Whedon’s all-star superhero movie, hit the jump. The Avengers opens in 3D on May 4, 2012.

Jessica Chastain Talks Untitled Terrence Malick Drama and Guillermo del Toro-produced MAMA
by Christina Radish Posted: August 13th, 2011At the press day for The Debt, in which Jessica Chastain (The Help, Tree of Life) plays Mossad secret agent Rachel Singer – on a mission to track down a Nazi war criminal in East Berlin in 1966 – the actress talked about her next project, doing her first genre film, Mama. Describing it as similar to The Ring and The Orphanage, and it being done by Guillermo del Toro’s company, she admitted to being trepidatious about taking on the role, but also excited about it, for that same reason.
She also talked about working with Terrence Malick again on his still untitled next project, and said she’s not even sure whether she’ll actually end up in the film because she doesn’t even know what it’s about. Check out what she had to say after the jump: ..... more; http://collider.com/jessica-chastain-untitled-terrence-malick-mama-interview/109185/
Jodie Foster Helps SETI Institute Keep Searching For Alien Contactpublished: 2011-08-13 08:48:57 Author: Sean O'Connell
Contact fans (we know you’re out there) and those interested in the search for intelligent life on other planets should groove on this science-fiction story.
It seems the SETI Institute’s Alien Telescope Array is back in business after having to be put into “hibernation” back in April due to budgetary concerns. The 42-antenna, situated in Northern California, has been active for decades and even stepped in to continue scientists’ quest for alien radio signals long after NASA cut off funding for such audio explorations back in 1993. But recent cuts in funding from the University of California at Berkeley put the SETI Institute’s project in jeopardy, MSNBC reports.
Well, Jodie Foster was having none of that, and so the Oscar-winning actress joined a group of financial contributors who pledged more than $200,000 to keep the antenna array in operation. Foster, of course, played a SETI researcher in Robert Zemeckis’ 1997 drama Contact which may or may not have seen Foster’s character make contact with extraterrestrials. Truthfully, we love Contact for Matthew McConaughey’s soft-spoken Christian philosopher, the closest the laid-back actor has come to achieving Zen-like tranquility on screen.
Foster wasn’t alone. Her contributions joined those of sci-fi novelist Larry Niven and Apollo 8 astronaut Bill Anders, who wrote a note with his contribution stating, “It is absolutely irresponsible of the human race not to be searching for evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence.”
I understand Niven and Anders’ interests in the project. But what’s Foster’s hook? Is she hoping the SETI Institute somehow records alien audio, leading to a Contact sequel? Or does she quietly support organizations that are tied to her past films? Maybe there’s a panic room association out there in need of contributions? Or an animal research center that removes voice boxes from lambs? No matter the cause, we like to believe Foster is donating funds to keep their work humming along.
