Anna Paquin and Ryan Phillippe to Star in STRAIGHT A’S [UPDATED]
by Matt Goldberg Posted: August 16th, 2011Anna Paquin and Ryan Phillipe have signed on to star in the indie comedy Straight A’s for Nu Image/Millenium Films. According to Variety, “Phillippe portrays a man who’s been in and out of rehab for 10 years and is haunted by the ghost of his dead mother pressing him to return home to the family he turned his back on years ago. Outfitted with nothing more than a bag of pills and a sack of weed, he trots back to Shreveport, only to be faced with his brother’s wife, who’s still pining for him, her first love.” Presumably Paquin plays the brother’s wife. Also, if a drug addict being haunted by his dead mother and pining to screw his sister-in-law isn’t comedy, then I don’t know what is.
James Cox (Wonderland) will direct from a script by David Cole. Production began today on location in Shreveport, Louisiana. Paquin will next be seen in Kenneth Lonergan’s Margaret co-starring Matt Damon and Mark Ruffalo. Phillippe will next be seen in your local gas station’s $5 DVD bin in Set Up co-starring 50 Cent and Bruce Willis.
[Update: Variety reports that Luke Wilson has joined the cast as well. He will play Paquin’s husband and Phillippe’s brother.

New Images and Poster for GENERATION UM… Starring Keanu Reeves and Adelaide Clemens
by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub Posted: August 16th, 2011Thanks to Voltage Pictures website, a number of new images and the first poster for Mark L. Mann’s Generation Um… have hit the net. Starring Keanu Reeves, Adelaide Clemens and Bojana Novakovic, the film “follows a day in the life of John (Reeves) and his two beautiful cohorts as they live life on the fringe, immersed in sex, drugs and indecision. As they navigate their daily routine of bars, crowds and New York City living, they embark on a path of self-discovery.”
Hit the jump for more.
When I spoke to Reeves at last year’s Toronto Film festival, he told me:
“It takes place over 24 hours. You follow this character named John. It’s basically the relationship between him and two call girls. He’s the driver and he ends up stealing a video camera and hanging with them in an apartment. It’s kind of about the interpersonal dynamics of this family.”Then, at last year’s AFM, I landed the official synopsis:
“generation Um…” follows a day in the life of John (Keanu Reeves) and his two beautiful cohorts, Mia and Violet, as they wander through their life, immersed in sex, drugs and indecision. When John steals a video camera, he finds inspiration in his directionless life. He turns the lens on Mia and Violet and the girls start to open up about their past and how it has informed their present lives. As they navigate their daily routine of bars, crowds and New York City living, they embark on a path of self-discovery.I’m a big fan of Reeves when he’s not starring in crap like The Lake House. The synopsis sounds cool, so I’m looking forward to checking it out. Here’s the images and poster. Hat tip to The Playlist.
