Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy to Star in THE ID THEFT
by Adam Chitwood Posted: August 15th, 2011Jason Bateman is lining up his next comedy, and it looks like Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy will be along for the ride. Deadline reports that Bateman and McCarthy are attached to star in the comedy The ID Theft, which Bateman is also producing. The film was originally set to center on a guy who steals another guy’s identity, but apparently Bateman pushed for McCarthy to take on the role of the titular theft after seeing her scene-stealing performance in Bridesmaids.
Steve Conrad (The Pursuit of Happyness) wrote the original script, but Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II) is currently doing a rewrite. Bateman kills pretty much any role he takes on, and McCarthy was fantastic in Bridesmaids, so this is definitely an exciting pairing. The film is expected to shoot during McCarthy’s hiatus from her CBS comedy Mike and Molly next April. Bridesmaids was a showcase for the actress’ talent, as she’s sold a pitch to Paramount, landed a role in Judd Apatow’s This is Forty, may possibly be starring in an Apatow/Feig comedy with Jon Hamm, and is set to host the upcoming season of SNL all in the wake of the monster hit.

Brad Pitt in Talks for James Gray’s THE GRAY MAN
by Adam Chitwood Posted: August 15th, 2011While currently busy filming the zombie apocalypse drama World War Z, Brad Pitt looks to be lining up his next feature. Variety reports that Pitt is in negotiations to star in director James Gray’s The Gray Man. The script, written by Adam Cozad, landed on last year’s black list and is adapted from the thriller novel of the same name by Mark Greaney. Pitt will play the world’s greatest assassin who finds himself fighting his way across Europe to save the life of his handler and his handler’s family.
Pitt has had his eye on the project for a while, as last November we reported that the actor was looking at starring in the film (he ended up shooting Cogan’s Trade first). Gray (We Own the Night) signed on in January and he detailed how he would distinguish the film from other thrillers by focusing on the point-of-view of the protagonist (Like the Bourne movies…). Colin Farrell and Director Craig Gillespie Interview FRIGHT NIGHT
by Christina Radish Posted: August 15th, 2011Given our current cultural fascination with vampires, and the huge popularity of the Twilight Saga films, the timing seems appropriate for a re-imagining of the beloved 1985 horror classic Fright Night, marking a return of the vicious, murdering vampire. When intriguing stranger Jerry Dandrige (Colin Farrell) moves in next door to Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin), he seems like a great guy, but something is clearly not quite right. At first, only Charley’s estranged best friend, Evil Ed (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), is convinced of the nefarious goings-on. As a result, Charley must take action to protect his mother (Toni Collette) and girlfriend Amy (Imogen Poots), and get rid of the monster himself, with a little advice and help from popular Las Vegas illusionist and self-proclaimed vampire expert Peter Vincent (David Tennant).
At the film’s press day, actor Colin Farrell and director Craig Gillespie talked about the hesitation of taking on what could have been an unoriginal remake, but instead is so much more fun, being a fan of the vampire genre, the complications of developing a backstory for a character that’s lived 400 years, working with Chris Sarandon (who played the original Jerry Dandrige), and playing with the vampire voice. Farrell also talked about his desire to maintain an eclectic career to keep himself guessing, and Gillespie talked about the appeal of his next project, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. New Images from THE WOMAN IN BLACK Starring Daniel Radcliffe and WHAT’S YOUR NUMBER? Starring Anna Faris and Chris Evans
by Matt Goldberg Posted: August 15th, 2011New images have gone online from the Hammer Films gothic-thriller The Woman in Black starring Daniel Radcliffe, and the insipid-looking romantic comedy What’s Your Number? starring Anna Faris and Chris Evans. In The Woman in Black, Radcliffe plays a young lawyer who travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals. And they don’t teach you how to deal with that in law school. As for What’s Your Number?, Faris plays a woman who thinks that because she’s slept with 20 different guys, she already passed by Mr. Right and so she has to revisit all of her exes with the help of her handsome neighbor (Evans). The movie’s message is apparently “Women, if you sleep with a bunch of guys, then you have probably missed out on a committed relationship, you giant slut.” If the movie was about a guy who had slept with 20 different women, there would be no movie because watching a dude get high-fives for 90 minutes has no narrative momentum.
Hit the jump to check out the images. The Woman in Black opens February 3, 2012. What’s Your Number? opens September 30th.
