Last year it was revealed that Alexandre Aja (Piranha 3D, The Hills Have Eyes) was developing a remake of "Maniac," the classic 1980 slasher film.

At the time, it was assumed that Aja would be directing, but now comes word that Franck Kahlfoun is stepping in to helm. Kahlfoun previously director "P2," produced by Aja, and "Wrong Turn at Tahoe."

In the original film, a serial killer randomly stalks and kills various young women in New York, which he sees as revenge for the mistreatment he got while being raised by his own abusive mother.

Rosamund Pike Joins Tom Cruise in "One Shot" Thriller

Posted: August 17th, 2011 by Staff

Back in July it was reported that Tom Cruise has signed on to star in "One Shot," a thriller based on the Lee Child book series about former military policeman-turned-drifter Jack Reacher.

Now comes word that Rosamund Pike (Clash of the Titans, Barney's Version) will play the female lead in the film, beating out Haley Atwell and Alexa Davalos for the role.

In the books, Reacher is 6'5 tall and weighs 250 lbs. Cruise is only 5'7, which will be odd for fans of the series. Plus, the actor will be shorter than the female lead; Pike is 5'9.

In the books, Reacher drifts around the country, carrying nothing more than a toothbrush, the clothes on his back, his passport and access to his military pension. He finds his way into all kinds of misadventures but usually winds up using his brawn and his brains from years of military experience to solve conspiracies for underdogs.

Kyle Bornheimer Signs On For Two Wedding-Themed Romantic Comedies

published: 2011-08-18 00:25:20 Author: Eric Eisenberg
When you think about it, it's quite obvious why Hollywood likes making wedding movies. What other sub-genre allows for a romance, crazy families, jealousy, male debauchery, sex, pretty locations and high tension all in the same film? We've seen what seems like millions of wedding movies in the last century and we'll see millions more in the future. Now, thanks to recent casting, if you plan on going to one in the next couple years prepare to see Kyle Bornheimer's face.

According to THR, the Perfect Couples star has signed on to two different wedding-themed romantic comedies. The first, Bachelorette, which co-stars Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan, began filming this week with writer/director Leslye Headland at the helm. Produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay under their Gary Sanchez Productions banner, the film is about three woman who agree to be bridesmaids for a girl they taunted in high school. What they don't know is that the bride actually has a revenge plot in mind. Bornheimer will play another high school classmate that's also at the wedding. While he hopes to create sparks with the former prom queen (one of the three leads, I guess? The article doesn't specify) she doesn't recognize his existence.

The second wedding film is The Big Wedding with Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Katherine Heigl, Topher Grace, Amanda Seyfried, Robin Williams, and Susan Sarandon. Formally known as Gently Down The Stream, the film is about divorced parents (De Niro and Keaton) who pretend to be together during their adopted son's wedding. In that film, Bornheimer will play the ex-husband of Heigl's character who "shows up at the wedding, to Heigl’s displeasure." Justin Zackham, who wrote The Bucket List, is directing.

So Bornheimer is doing two wedding movies in which he plays a character who isn't wanted at the wedding? Here's hoping he has high self-esteem. .............

First Trailer For Bill Nighy/Rachel Weisz Spy Thriller Page Eight Isn't Exactly Thrilling

published: 2011-08-17 19:01:28 Author: Eric Eisenberg
Generally speaking, a movie's trailer should be a reflection of the movie's genre. If you're making a comedy, the advertising should make the audience laugh. If you're making an action film, the advertising should show off a lot of ass-kicking. If you're making a thriller, the advertising should be...thrilling. That said, watch the first trailer for Page Eight, the newest film from writer/director David Hare, courtesy of Twitch.

First Look At Owen Wilson, Jack Black And Steve Martin In The Big Year

published: 2011-08-17 15:57:56 Author: Katey Rich
Owen Wilson, Steve Martin and Jack Black are the kind of actors who, at their best, you think could be funny doing pretty much anything. Will that apply to birdwatching though? The three funnymen really are about to star in a birdwatching comedy called The Big Year, which is set to hit theaters on October 14, a comedy option for those of you who aren't into the dancing small-town teenagers (Footloose) or ice-bound monsters (The Thing) also opening in theaters that weekend. We've yet to get a look at the trailer for The Big Year to gauge how funny it might be, but Fox has released the first image, which has Wilson, Martin and Black wearing some very serious hats. Take a look below and click for the high-res version:

Ralph Fiennes Invades His Own City In First Trailer For Coriolanus

published: 2011-08-17 14:18:34 Author: Eric Eisenberg
Ralph Fiennes really creeps me out. While I'm sure that he's an absolutely lovely person and he's most definitely an incredibly skilled actor, roles like Amon Goeth in Schindler's List, Francis Dolarhyde in Red Dragon and even Voldemort in the Harry Potter movies have seeped into my subconscious and colored my perception of him. He has more than a few hero roles to his name as well, but when he plays a villain, you remember it forever. As a result I'm incredibly curious to see what he does as the dark hero in his directorial debut, Coriolanus.

Based on the Shakespeare tragedy, the new film set in the modern day where the General Caius Martius Coriolanus (Fiennes) has earned the rage of his people and is labeled as a traitor. Banished from his home, he forms an alliance with his sworn enemy Tullus Aufidius (Gerard Butler) and takes vengeance by invading his own country. Written by John Logan (Gladiator, The Last Samurai, The Aviator), the film also stars Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, and Jessica Chastain.

Check out the trailer below and see it in HD over on IMDb.
