Stacy Keach Joins THE BOURNE LEGACY, Noah Huntley to Play King Magnus in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: August 5th, 2011

We’ve got a couple of casting stories for you this afternoon. First up, Variety reports that Stacey Keach is the latest to join the cast of Tony Gilroy’s The Bourne Legacy. Jeremy Renner takes on the lead role as an operative trained in the same program that Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne was running from in the first three films. Keach joins previously announced Rachel Weisz, Joan Allen and Albert Finney. Edward Norton is also in talks to play the villain in the film. The Bourne Legacy opens August 3rd, 2012.
Additionally, Noah Huntley (Your Highness) is set to play King Magnus in one of eighteen Snow White projects in the works at the moment, Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman. Producer Palek Patel broke the news on his Twitter (via Showblitz), revealing that Huntley will play White’s father. Rupert Sanders is directing, and the cast includes Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron. We got our first look at the actors in their costumes a couple weeks ago, and I was onhand for the Comic-Con panel and was actually quite impressed. Snow White and the Huntsman opens June 1st, 2012.

First Look at Rihanna in BATTLESHIP

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: August 5th, 2011

The first trailer for Peter Berg’s Battleship hit the web last week, and today we have our first look at Rihanna in character in the film. The trailer was, um, less than warmly received, but I wasn’t necessarily offended by the trailer, I just don’t really see the point in having another “grounded in reality” alien invasion movie. A much interesting take could have been, I don’t know, naval battles between human-manned ships?
But enough about the trailer. The image shows Rihanna sporting her military getup and wielding a very big gun. Hit the jump to check it out for yourself. The film also stars Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard and Brooklyn Decker. Battleship opens May 18th, 2012. ........

Media Rights Captial Acquires David Cronenberg’s Adaptation of AS SHE CLIMBED ACROSS THE TABLE

by Adam Chitwood   Posted: August 5th, 2011

Media Rights Capital has acquired the rights to Jonathan Lethem’s slightly insane novel As She Climbed Across the Table. We reported last year that David Cronenberg is directing (a fact I previously failed to remember), and now Deadline reports that MRC has acquired the package with Bruce Wagner (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3) writing the screenplay. Steven Zaillian and Garrett Basch are producing. The story centers on a love triangle between a university professor, his particle physicist girlfriend, and the black hole that results from her experiments attempting to replicate the origins of the universe.
The professor’s girlfriend spurns him in favor of the black hole (which she’s named “Lack”), and the academic risks being sucked into the metaphysical rabbit hole in order to win her back. While the premise is decidedly strange, I relish the thought of Cronenberg taking on this Eternal Sunshine-esque material. With MRC’s backing, hopefully the director gets to work on this one soon. Cronenberg’s next film, A Dangerous Method, will premiere this fall at the Toronto Film Festival. Hit the jump to read a synopsis of the book.  ............

David Cronenberg To Direct Adaptation Of Jonathan Lethem's As She Climbed Across the Table

published: 2011-08-05 14:46:16 Author: Eric Eisenberg
It would seem that David Cronenberg has absolutely no desire to sit on a couch and relax for any extended length of time. While the filmmaker hasn't released a film since 2007, the last year has kept him quite busy. While we're still waiting for the arrival of A Dangerous Method - which, sadly, still doesn't have a release date - the director has been hard at work on Cosmopolis, the Don DeLillo adaptation starring Robert Pattinson. But while that movie is still in post-production, Cronenberg has already chosen his next project.

According to Deadline, Media Rights Capital has acquired the rights to the Jonathan Lethem novel As She Climbed Across the Table and David Cronenberg is currently attached to direct. Bruce Wagner wrote the adaptation of the story, which centers on a love triangle between "an academic, his particle-physicist girlfriend, and the black hole that comes as the result of her lab experiments." When the physicist leaves the main character to focus more on her work, he decides that he needs to do everything he can to get her back, even if it means being sucked into nothingness. The project will be the second time the filmmaker has worked with the writer, as Cronenberg served as producer on Wagner's directorial debut I'm Losing You.

This project sounds thoroughly weird and right up Cronenberg's ally. It's been a while since the director blended a bit of science-fiction into his films, so this could be quite great. After all, this is the guy who brought us Scanners, Videodrome, and The Fly. It should be a welcome comeback.  .........
