Edward Zwick to Direct THE GREAT WALL for Legendary East

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: August 23rd, 2011

Director Edward Zwick is going to China. The Last Samurai director is set to helm the inaugural film for Legendary East, The Great Wall. Zwick and his longtime writing partner Marshall Herskovitz will pen the screenplay for the flick that “reveals the legend behind a great mystery of our age: why this magnificent structure came to be.” The script will be based on a story by Legendary Entertainment Chairman and CEO Thomas Tull and World War Z author Max Brooks. Tull is also producing alongside Jon Jashni, Alex Gartner, Charles Roven (The Dark Knight Rises) as well as Zwick and Herskovitz.
The wall itself was originally constructed in the 5th century BC to keep out nomadic groups from the Chinese Empire, but has a storied history as it has been rebuilt, added to, and maintained throughout multiple culturally significant periods in China’s history. New Posters for THE RAVEN, THE ARTIST and David Cronenberg’s A DANGEROUS METHOD

by Adam Chitwood    Posted: August 23rd, 2011

We’ve got a few new posters to share with you today. The teaser poster for James McTeigue’s The Raven has been unveiled. The film revolves around a serial killer plotting his murders after the stories of Edgar Allen Poe. John Cusack stars as Poe himself alongside Luke Evans, Alice Eve and Brendan Gleeson, and the film hits theaters March 9, 2012. Additionally, the first poster for the Cannes favorite The Artist has been released. The black and white silent film tells the story of a silent film star coming to terms with the advent of Talkies. The early Oscar favorite flick stars Jean Dujardin, Berenice Bejo and John Goodman and opens November 23.
Finally, we’ve got the French poster for David Cronenberg’s A Dangerous Method. That film stars Michael Fassbender, Viggo Mortensen and Keira Knightley and centers on the relationship between Carl Jung (Fassbender), his mentor Sigmund Freud (Mortenson), and the woman that came between them (Knightley). The flick opens November 23. Hit the jump to check out the posters.

Ben Affleck May Direct and Star in LINE OF SIGHT

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: August 23rd, 2011

Ben Affleck is currently at work directing and starring in the Iranian hostage drama Argo but he’s already eyeing his next feature.  According to THR, Affleck is in talks to direct the action flick Line of Sight for Warner Bros. and producers Joel Silver (The Matrix) and Andrew Rona (Unknown).  The plot “centers on an elite commando squad transporting cargo while dealing with a global threat.”  Sounds a little generic, but Affleck has brought his own edge to noir and heist flicks, so this could be interesting.  Oh, wait.  There’s more:  “One of the conceits of the movie is that it tells the tale from a point-of-view akin to a first-person shooter game.”  Hooray.  As we previously reported, Halo: Reach writer Peter O’Brien came on board to work on the script and now it looks like we know why.  Perhaps Affleck could bring something to the film that makes the FPS conceit more than a gimmick.  Or the movie could simply be Call of Duty but you’re not allowed to play and when a character dies there’s not a trite quotation about war.
Argo starts shooting next month in Los Angeles.  In addition to Affleck, the film also stars Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, and Alan Arkin (if you needed more reasons to be excited about it).

Teaser Trailer for Luc Besson’s THE LADY Starring Michelle Yeoh

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: August 23rd, 2011

A teaser trailer for Luc Besson’s The Lady has gone online and all it tells you is “This lady (played by Michelle Yeoh) is important to another country.”  Americans have a tough time caring about any country other than our own (unless they foreign country is hit by a natural disaster and then we care for about a week or so) so this movie needs more than a teaser to get people interested.  You’re not going to know from this teaser trailer that the movie is about Burma’s Aung San Suu Kyi and her husband, Michael Aris (David Thewlis), and how the two of them forwarded the country’s democratic movement.  Since the film opens in less than a month, it might be a good idea for Europa to get a full trailer out ASAP.
Hit the jump to check out the teaser trailer.  The Lady will play at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival.  It opens September 12th.

Hillary Duff's Bonnie And Clyde Movie Uses Her Pregnancy As An Excuse To Drop Her

published: 2011-08-23 08:19:04 Author: Katey Rich
It's been nearly two years since we heard anything about The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, the new take on the famous bank robbers that was set to star Hillary Duff and Kevin Zegers. In November 2009 director Tonya S. Holly beefed up the supporting cast, but since there wasn't a peep from the production after that-- and casting Duff in a role immortalized by Faye Dunaway started to seem more and more ridiculous--- it seemed safe to assume the whole bad idea had been cancelled.

Now the production has popped back up, at TMZ of all places, and it's hard to sort the gossip from the actual industry news. According to this report Duff has been "dumped" from the production thanks to her newly announced pregnancy, with the excuse that shooting is scheduled for the fall and Duff won't be available until June. But given that production has been planned for years now with no forward movement, Duff's pregnancy might seem like more of a convenient excuse to ditch an actress who's more well known these days for the tabloids than any actual performances.
