Casting Call: John C. McGinley is the Boss in I, ALEX CROSS; Stephanie Szostak in Talks for R.I.P.D.; Dakota Johnson Joins GAY DUDE

by Brendan Bettinger    Posted: August 9th, 2011

Scrubs MVP John C. McGinley has signed on for a role in Summit’s adaptation of I, Alex Cross.  Tyler Perry stars as a homicide detective in search of a serial killer: “The two face off in a high-stakes game of cat and mouse, but when the mission gets personal, Cross is pushed to the edge of his moral and psychological limits.” According to Showblitz, McGinley will play Chief of Police Richard Brookwell, a “vigorous, ambitious man” in contrast to Cross’ gentler approach homicide.  Matthew Fox, Ed Burns, and Jean Reno also star in the adaptation, directed by Rob Cohen (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor) from a script by Kerry Williamson and Marc Moss.
Hit the jump for details on Stephanie Szostak’s role opposite Ryan Reynolds in R.I.P.D., and info on the high school comedy Gay Dude. ..........

Bruce Willis in Talks to Play Original Joe in G.I. JOE 2: RETALIATION

by Jason Barr    Posted: August 9th, 2011

Bruce Willis is in negotiations with Paramount to join the cast of G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation. If the deal goes through, Heat Vision reports that Willis will take on the role of General Joe Colton, the man responsible for forming the original strike team in the comics (hence the name). Although I have little knowledge of the comics or Joe’s portrayal in them (a statement that probably negates my next line), I can’t help but feel as if Willis would be a piece of perfect casting for the part. He has the action/adventure chops needed to make the character believable without sacrificing the element of fun I remember gathering from the original cartoon.
If Willis joins, he will take part in a cast that already includes Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Ray Stevenson (who is playing the villain Firefly), Adrianne Palicki, Lee Byung-hun, D.J. Cotrona, and Ray Park. Jon Chu (Never Say Never) is directing the pic for Paramount. G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation will begin shooting in New Orleans later this month with its June 29, 2012 release date in mind. .........

Rose Byrne Replaces Greta Gerwig in THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES

by Jason Barr   Posted: August 9th, 2011

Two-time Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Rose Byrne (FX’s Damages) has agreed to take on a role originally planned for Greta Gerwig in director Derek Cianfrance’s (Blue Valentine) crime drama The Place Beyond the Pines. Although Gerwig had never officially signed onto the film, we reported back in June that the actress was in talks to join. Today, Vulture is reporting that Byrne has officially taken over the part as a result of scheduling conflicts that arose with Gerwig’s film promotion commitments.
For those unfamiliar with the project, The Place Beyond the Pines also stars Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, and Ben Mendelsohn. The pic centers on a showdown between a cop turned politician (Cooper) and a biker/bank robber (Gosling) and is currently shooting in Schenectady. Per the report, Byrne will play the role of Cooper’s wife. The actress most recently appeared in hits such as X-Men: First Class and Bridesmaids. As for Gerwig, she is currently filming Woody Allen’s The Bop Decameron in Rome alongside Alec Baldwin and Jesse Eisenberg. .........

by Ethan Anderton    Posted: August 9th, 2011

After taking this summer to catch up on all five seasons of Showtime’s fantastically bloody serial killer drama Dexter, my excitement for the premiere of the sixth season on October 2nd simply cannot be contained. Therefore, I’m very pleased to direct your attention to this great new behind-the-scenes featurette which delves into some of the bigger plot points that will dominate this season. From Dexter’s newfound interest in religion, to a quick sneak peek of Edward James Olmos and Colin Hanks as a couple of creepy new characters, this is a great, informative tease for the sixth season which can’t get here soon enough. Check out the new featurette after the jump. ........
