Ben Stiller Making "Quantum Hoops" About Worst Basketball Team Ever

Posted: August 9th, 2011 by Staff

Disney has acquired remake rights to "Quantum Hoops," a 2007 documentary about the 2006 Caltech basketball team that in 21 season and 245 games, failed to get a single win and routinely lost by more than 60 points. Ben Stiller is producing.

The new film will be a comedy about a group of brainiacs - future political and industrial leaders - who tried to overcome a lack of athletic skills by getting an exiled NCAA coach to help them win at least one game.

The script will be written by Stan Chervin (Moneball). Watch the trailer for the original documentary below.

New Poster For I Don't Know How She Does It

published: 2011-08-08 19:52:10 Author: Eric Eisenberg
It's been a minute since we've last heard anything from the Sarah Jessica Parker-starring I Don't Know How She Does It. It was all the way back in May that the first trailer for the film premiered and we haven't seen a poster, image or even TV spot since. But with the film's release date now just a few short weeks away, it looks like the marketing department is ready to move back into gear and their doing so with the movie's first one-sheet.

Posted over at HitFix, I understand what this poster is trying to do, however, it's doing it quite ineffectively. The idea behind the movie is that Sarah Jessica Parker is trying to balance her life between motherhood and work, but what's with all of the negative space behind her and what appear to be motion lines? Why have her turned to the side when you can have her face forward and surround her with jobs and responsibilities in white type? Also, why is the word "HOW" bigger than the rest of the title and in a pink font? Very little about this design makes any sense, but perhaps they know something that I don't.

Brit Marling Enters Talks For Role In Robert Redford's The Company You Keep

published: 2011-08-08 18:32:56 Author: Eric Eisenberg
Last week every actor in the world wanted to be Brit Marling. With Another Earth out in limited release, the indie breakout star was fielding offers from incredible names like Tom Cruise, Steven Soderbergh and Robert Redford. The Mission: Impossible star wanted her to star with him in the Christopher McQuarrie-directed One Shot and Soderbergh had a role for her in Magic Mike, the Channing Tatum/Alex Pettyfer stripper movie, but now it looks like the Sundance founder has won her attention.

Variety reports that Marling is now in negotiations to work alongside Redford and Shia LaBeouf in The Company You Keep, Redford's next directorial effort. First announced in July, LaBeouf will play a journalist who discovers a former Weather Underground member (Redford) that has been living in hiding from the FBI for 30 years. Wanting to make a name for himself, the journalist stays in hot pursuit of the the leftist radical as he goes on the run. While the story doesn't have any details about the character, it does confirm that she would play he female lead. Described as a "political thriller," the movie is based on the book by Neil Gordon and the adaptation was written by Lem Dobbs. The film is scheduled to go into production this September.

While I imagine that this means that Marling won't be able to take the role in One Shot - that film is also scheduled to begin shooting in the fall - I'm curious if Magic Mike is off the table. Between Soderbergh promoting both Contagion and Haywire in the next few months and the fact that he's yet to set his schedule, it's entirely possible that Marling could do both projects. There are few better ways to raise your own stock than by working with Robert Redford and Steven Soderbergh over a 12-month stretch.

New Dark Knight Rises Set Video Has Batman And Bane Battling In A Brawl

published: 2011-08-08 14:15:51 Author: Eric Eisenberg

In the comics, the Batman villain known as Bane is known to have a brilliant criminal mind and is a master strategist, but he also happens to be one huge, physical son-of-a-bitch. Absolutely layered with muscles that are enhanced by the drug known as Venom, he is one of the few supervillains who can tussle with the caped crusader mano-a-mano and have it be a fair fight. As a result we can probably expect a lot of fighting between the hero and villain in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, and now a new video has surfaced online showing just that.

Discovered by The Sly Oyster, the video features Batman and Bane duking it out in the midst of a huge brawl. It would seem that the video was taken around the same day that some of the first set video and photos were taken, but this one has a much better look at the central protagonist and antagonist as they fight for the future of Gotham. The video begins with a bit of rehersal before chaos breaks out and everyone begins throwing punches.

Hear Tom Hardy As Bane On The Dark Knight Rises Set

The Pittsburgh shoot of The Dark Knight Rises has provided endless opportunities for reporting in the last few weeks, giving us everything from our first look at Bane in costume to a shot of Anne Hathaway on the set that may be Selina Kyle in resortwear, but is probably just Hathaway herself trying to stay cool. Over the weekend production moved over to the football stadium Heinz Field, where a game between the Gotham City Rogues-- as depicted by actual Pittsburgh Steelers player-- and the Rapid City Monuments got interrupted by Bane himself. The production has been so canny about spoilers that we still don't know exactly what's going on at the game, but a video snagged by an extra in the stadium (via gives us both a sense of the action and our first listen to Tom Hardy in character as Bane. Check it out below:
