Ben Affleck Adds Monsters Star Scoot McNairy To Hostage Thriller Argo

: 2011-08-05 18:27:49 Author: Sean O'Connell
Actor Scoot McNairy, who led an expedition through creature-savaged Mexico in Gareth Edwards’ indie thriller Monsters, is the latest thesp to join Ben Affleck’s still-in-development political satire Argo.

Variety, which breaks the story, doesn’t clarify what role McNairy would play, though Affleck, directing his third feature, already has cast himself, Bryan Cranston, John Goodman and Alan Arkin for his ensemble. Screenwriter Chris Terrio is adapting Argo from a 2007 Wired magazine article by Joshuah Bearman (this one, in fact) that explained how, in 1979, the CIA posed as Hollywood executives filming a sci-fi alien picture in order to rescue captured U.S. diplomats in Tehran. The picture’s being produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse banner, and sounds a lot like it will mirror The Men Who Stare At Goats in tone.

The reason we’re excited, and it still surprises us a little to admit this, is because Affleck is directing. But after the near-flawless Gone Baby Gone and the admirable The Town, Affleck has earned his reputation as a director on the rise. This will be his first endeavor outside of the “Boston criminal” element, but the material sounds quirky enough and his cast, so far, is top notch.

Argo isn’t the only feather in McNairy’s cap. He’ll be seen in a handful of productions schedule to hit between now and next year, though none are as high profile as Andrew Dominik’s Cogan’s Trade, a crime thriller with Brad Pitt, Ray Liotta and James Gandolfini. That’s a ton of made men crammed into a heist pic we’re dying to see.

New Bunraku Poster Says Yes To Blue But No To Creativity

published: 2011-08-05 06:21:08 Author: Will LeBlanc
A couple of weeks ago we saw the first trailer for the hyper-stylized modern/western-influenced Bunraku, a movie that looks like what you’d get of you put Sin City in a Shake & Bake baggies with a pack of crayons. Even on a pretty slim budget of $25 million, newbie director Guy Moshe managed to nail down some high enough profile actors that might actually get this movie some traction, like Josh Hartnett, Woody Harrelson, and Ron Perlman just to new a few.

A new poster has been released for the film over at Yahoo! Movies and it kind of misses the mark that a film of this style should be trying to hit. It feels very standardized, like it was simply a Photoshop “Movie Poster” template that the marketing team just switched some elements out on and then put it out. With a movie that has this pronounced a visual style, they had a lot of freedom to get away with some bonkers stuff, but instead they released what isn’t a terrible poster, but a really boring one.

See Anne Hathaway's Catwoman In Action On The Dark Knight Rises Set

: 2011-08-05 09:36:02 Author: Katey Rich
If I know our loyal Cinema Blend audience, I know you guys have already gotten a look at the first official image of Anne Hathaway in costume as Selina Kyle, a.k.a. Catwoman. The image was released by the studio in an apparent attempt to combat the dozens and dozens of leaked set photos that have popped up online since the movie started shooting in Pittsburgh, and as it turns out, this release came in the nick of time. Spoiler TV has already snagged set images of Hathaway-- or a very convincing stunt double-- on the set, riding the very motorcycle we saw in the official image and essentially looking like she's just crashed outside the room she's in for the official photo. Take a look at a few of the best images below.
Everything I said about the costume and the look in the original still goes here-- the costume is sleek and efficient looking, but doesn't really have anything to do with cats. Actually, the fact that the official image referred to her only as "Selina Kyle" might mean we don't even get the Catwoman moniker in this movie, or at least not as her primary name. Anyway, it's good to see her in action and surrounded by other actors, and also get the confirmation that she's participating in the same giant fight scene where we've seen Batman duke it out with Bane. If the set photo trend continues, we may see Catwoman running the Bat over with that motorcycle in the next set.  ......... http://www.cinemablend.com/new/See-Anne-Hathaway-s-Catwoman-In-Action-On-The-Dark-Knight-Rises-Set-26070.html

The Dark Knight Rises First Look: Catwoman Straddles A Motorcycle

: 2011-08-05 07:05:57 Author: Katey Rich
Apparently sick of all the leaked set photos that have given us our first look at Tom Hardy's Bane and a pivotal fight scene in The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros. has gone ahead and released a high-res, gorgeous image of the movie's next big villain-- Catwoman. Below get your first look at Anne Hathaway in costume and riding a giant motorcycle. Since she's bent over the motorcycle there's a lot of the costume we can't see, but there's plenty of black leather to be glimpsed anyway. Check out the image and click on it for a bigger version.
The Catwoman costume is something Batman fans have stressed over, both because she's a pivotal character and because the character's costume has gone through some truly miserable incarnations over the year (Halle Berry, we're still not really over this. Back in June we heard from a source close to the costume designer that Hathaway's Catwoman outfit would be "more tactical," that she'd be wearing the classic Catwoman goggles and would look "more like a robber." We can see all of that here, especially since Catwoman seems to be mid-robbery and wearing the goggles. She also seems to have gone full Jersey Shore and gotten a Bump-It for her hair, which seems a little impractical for a heist scene, but I'll let her back her own decisions there.

The one thing I'm hoping is that there's something to the outfit that actually indicates a cat-- otherwise we've just got a leather-clad robber woman with no visual connection to the classic character. Beyond that, Hathaway seems to fit perfectly into the Nolan Batman universe-- particularly since her motorcycle seems to be from the same DNA as the Batpod. The Dark Knight Rises opens July 20 next year; for everything we know about the movie so far, go here.  ...........
