3 More Character Posters for DRIVE
by Matt Goldberg Posted: August 30th, 2011 at 1:33 pm
There’s not much more I can say about Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive that I didn’t already say in my review (or at least nothing I can say without wading into spoilers). It’s easily the best film I’ve seen so far this year. I would be shocked if it didn’t make it into my Top 10 of 2011. You need to see it when it opens.
Film District has released three more character posters for the movie highlighting supporting characters Standard (Oscar Isaac), Blanche (Christina Hendricks), and Nino (Ron Perlman). Check out the posters after the jump. The film also stars Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, and Albert Brooks. Drive opens September 16th.
David Koepp to Write Rob Marshall’s THE THIN MAN Starring Johnny Depp
by Matt Goldberg Posted: August 30th, 2011Screenwriter David Koepp (Spider-Man) has been tapped to write Rob Marshall’s adaptation of Dashiell Hammett’s The Thin Man starring Johnny Depp. The 1934 novel follows retired detective Nick Charles who is trying to happily live his life with his charming wife Nora and their dog Asta. However, when one of Charles’ former client Clyde Wynant goes missing and his secretary turns up dead, Nick is reluctantly drawn back into the case and the web of intrigue created by Wynant’s terrible family. Also, everyone in the book, particularly Nick and Nora, drinks like a fish but hardly anyone gets drunk. Hammett’s novel was successfully adapted into a franchise starring William Powell and Myrna Loy although Hammett only wrote one novel featuring Nick and Nora.

First Clip from THE IDES OF MARCH
by Matt Goldberg Posted: August 30th, 2011 at 10:57 am
George Clooney’s The Ides of March is one of my must-see films of the fall. For those unfamiliar with the flick, here’s the brief synopsis:
During the frantic last days before a heavily contested Ohio presidential primary, an up-and-coming campaign press secretary (Ryan Gosling) finds himself involved in a political scandal that threatens to upend his candidate’s shot at the presidency. The first clip from the film has gone online and it shows some banter between Gosling and a young intern played by Evan Rachel Wood. It’s light and playful but I think the movie itself handles far weightier themes. Hit the jump to check out the clip. The film also stars Clooney, Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, and Jeffrey Wright. The Ides of March will play at the Toronto International Film Festival before opening nationwide on October 7th.
New Posters for REAL STEEL, THE IDES OF MARCH, and TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY
by Matt Goldberg Posted: August 30th, 2011 at 7:05 am
New posters have gone online for Real Steel, The Ides of March, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. The Real Steel poster finally uses Hugh Jackman’s mug instead of his silhouette or the boxing robot’s camel-fist. Speaking of handsome faces, Ryan Gosling is a good-looking dude looking at fellow attractive gent George Clooney in the poster for the political thriller The Ides of March. I’ll let folks in the comments section debate who’s hotter (answer: Clooney). Finally, there’s a UK quad poster for Tomas Alfredson’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy that’s packed with blurbs from British publications raving about the movie.
Hit the jump to check out the posters. Real Steel and The Ides of March open October 7th. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy opens in the UK on September 16th and in the US on December 9th.
