Trailer for MARGIN CALL Starring Kevin Spacey, Zachary Quinto, Demi Moore, and Paul Bettany
by Adam Chitwood Posted: July 25th, 2011 at 5:19 pm
The first trailer for the financial thriller Margin Call has been released. The film debuted at Sundance, and judging from the trailer it looks to be a fairly intense morality piece. The cast is great, and Steve caught the film at the festival and said it was really good. I like the tone here, and the idea of the film’s events playing out over a single day and night is definitely intriguing.
The story centers on the key people at an investment bank during the 24-hour period before the recent financial crisis. The cast includes Demi Moore, Simon Baker, Penn Badgley, Zachary Quinto, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons, Stanley Tucci and Kevin Spacey. You can check out Steve’s interview with all of the above here and here. Margin Call opens October 21st. Hit the jump to watch the trailer. http://collider.com/margin-call-trailer/105375/
Todd Phillips to Produce and Possibly Direct ARMS AND DUDES
by Adam Chitwood Posted: July 25th, 2011
Director Todd Phillips’ (The Hangover Part II) production company Green Hat Films has optioned the rights to the Rolling Stone article Arms and Dudes. Written by Guy Lawson, the article centers on two young guys who won a $300 million contract from the Pentagon to supply America’s allies in Afghanistan with munitions. After 85 deliveries to the war-torn country worth over $66 million, their Miami offices were raided by federal agents and the two were charged with 71 counts of fraud.
Variety reports that Phillips is producing the project with an eye towards directing. He hasn’t settled on his next directorial outing following The Hangover Part II yet, so if a script turns up quickly Arms and Dudes could be a possibility. Neil Burger to Direct Bonnie and Clyde Film Scripted by Sheldon Turner
by Adam Chitwood Posted: July 25th, 2011
Over 40 years after Arthur Penn’s classic Bonnie and Clyde, director Neil Burger (Limitless) is set to take on the story of the outlaw duo once more. Variety reports that Burger will direct an adaptation of Jeff Guinn’s non-fiction book Go Down Together: The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde. Up in the Air co-writer Sheldon Turner is taking on scripting duties, with Sean and Bryan Furst set to produce. Guinn’s book tells a deromanticized account of the two’s streak of bank robberies which left seven dead bodies in its wake. No word on how soon the film will go into production, but Burger recently signed on to write and direct the high-profile adaptation of the video game Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune after David O. Russel left the project. Hit the jump for a synopsis of Guinn’s book. http://collider.com/neil-burger-bonnie-and-clyde-sheldon-turner/105215/
First Look at GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE
by Matt Goldberg Posted: July 25th, 2011 at 2:38 pm
Adam and I caught the panel for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and you can click here to read his thoughts on what we saw. Personally, I thought that the presentation was fighting tooth and nail to convince a skeptical audience that A) Ghost Rider is cool, B) This movie will be way better than the first film. I probably will never think Ghost Rider is cool but I think he can be silly and directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank) seem to understand how to have some fun with the character. While we can have some laughs about the notion that anything Ghost Rider rides will become a hell-version of that thing (/Film’s Russ Fischer speculated on hookers and toilets), I have to admire the film’s lunacy.
The first images from the film have gone online and you can see that the biggest physical change is that Ghost Rider’s skull has gone from white to a charred black. Hit the jump to check out the images which also include a look at Idris Elba doing some motorcyclin’. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance opens in 3D on February 17, 2012.http://collider.com/ghost-rider-2-movie-images/105183/
Val Kilmer, Ray Liotta, and Gina Gershon to Star in BREATHLESS
by Matt Goldberg Posted: July 25th, 2011
Val Kilmer, Ray Liotta, Gina Gershon, and Kelli Giddish (Chase) are set to star in Jesse Baget’s Breathless. Before you freak out and think that they’re remake Jean-Luc Godard’s classic film, Baget’s movie is a thriller about a woman (Gershon), “who is fed up with her husband’s criminal acts and plans with her best friend to do something about him. Kilmer would play the husband and Liotta would play a local sheriff brought into the mix.” Variety reports that Baget co-wrote the script with Stefania Moscato.
Kilmer continues to be one of Hollywood’s undervalued actors. When I was at the amazing Twixt panel at Comic-Con, I could see an entire film of him just riffing out an opening sentence to a wannabe-Stephen King novel. Liotta’s also great and even though he does direct-to-DVD stuff like Street Kings 2, he can still deliver the goods like he did in the Sundance flick The Details. Liotta will be seen later this year in the David Wain comedy Wanderlust and next year in the Brad Pitt crime drama Cogan’s Trade. http://collider.com/val-kilmer-ray-liotta-gina-gershon-breathless/105132/
UK Trailer for INTRUDERS Starring Clive Owen
by Matt Goldberg Posted: July 25th, 2011 at 10:30 am
The UK trailer for the horror flick Intruders has gone online. The story focuses on two families, on in Britain and the other in Spain and a child from each family being haunted by a dark specter. Clive Owen plays the father of the British girl who sees the shadowy figure and his skepticism turns to the horror when he discovers that the malevolent creature is real. I really hope that Intruders isn’t going to be “Trust but with a menacing apparition instead of a rapist.” They certainly seem to share theme of a father struggling with his inability to protect his child.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. The film also stars Carice van Houten, Daniel Bruhl, Pilar Lopez de Ayala, and Kerry Fox. Intruders opens in the UK and the US on October 7th.http://collider.com/intruders-trailer-uk/105118/
