Rhys Ifans to Co-Star in BOND 23
by Matt Goldberg Posted: July 17th, 2011 at 8:12 pm

A couple weeks ago, we reported that Bond 23 had found its Miss Moneypenny in Naomie Harris and that the 28 Days Later actress would be joining a cast that includes Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, and Javier Bardem. Now another solid acting talent has signed on as The Telegraph [via Bleeding Cool] reports that Rhys Ifans will co-star. There’s no word on who Ifans will play, but know that Bardem is playing the villain and that Fiennes is playing a “complex” character. Director Sam Mendes hired playwright Patrick Marber (Closer) to handle the script.

Bond is another big get for Ifans who has gone from reliable character actor to nabbing major roles in the last year. He’ll be starring in Roland Emmerich’s Shakespeare drama Anonymous, he’s co-starring in the comedy Five Year Engagement, and he’s playing baddie The Lizard in The Amazing Spider-Man. The untitled 23rd James Bond film is due out November 9, 2012.

Sam Rockwell in Talks to Replace Jeremy Renner in BETTER LIVING THROUGH CHEMISTRY
by Ben Garman Posted: July 16th, 2011 at 11:41 am

Sam Rockwell is in negotiations with Occupant Films to star in the black comedy/thriller Better Living Through Chemistry. Jeremy Renner, who was previously slated for the role, has jumped ship to maintain a slightly more manageable schedule (he is currently on board Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Avengers, and The Bourne Legacy, just to name a few). Starring opposite Jennifer Garner and Michelle Monaghan, Variety reports that Rockwell will play a small town pharmacist whose unhappy marriage (to Monaghan) leaves him vulnerable to the alluring wiles of a sexy trophy wife (Garner) and the highs of prescription drugs. Chaos breaks loose when their affair escalates and the unfaithful couple hatches a plot to murder her husband. The film will be a debut feature from writer-directors Geoff Moore and David Posamentier. Judi Dench is on board to narrate the pic. Tom Cruise Lands Christopher McQuarrie’s ONE SHOT
by Dave Trumbore Posted: July 16th, 2011 at 10:51 am

After starring in what might be his last Mission: Impossible movie, Tom Cruise is already moving on to a new action franchise. Cruise has penned a deal with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions to star as Jack Reacher, a retired military policeman turned crime-fighting drifter, in One Shot. Based on the novel series by Lee Child, Reacher is a reoccurring character known for his stoic nature, brutality in dealing with villains and his imposing size. The plot of One Shot revolves around Reacher investigating an accused sniper who gunned down five seemingly innocent victims. Though it is set in a Midwestern town, the movie is expected to film in Pittsburgh. Christopher McQuarrie (The Way of the Gun) is attached as the writer/director. Sean Bean to Play the King in Relativity’s Untitled Snow White Film
by Adam Chitwood Posted: July 15th, 2011 at 8:21 pm

Fresh off his fantastic turn in HBO’s Game of Thrones, Sean Bean is in final negotiations to take on the role of the King in Relativity Media’s Untitled Snow White Project. Directed by Tarsem Singh, the film stars Julia Roberts, Armie Hammer, Lily Collins, and Nathan Lane. Described as a “spirited adventure comedy,” the story see Snow White (Collins) regaining her birthright as princess with the aid of her trustful seven dwarves.

Variety reports that Bean’s King is White’s father. His kingdom is destroyed by the evil Queen played by Roberts. Singh’s film is one of several Snow White projects in development, most notably Universal’s rival film Snow White and the Huntsman with Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth. Following a bitter release date war (that was expertly analyzed by our faithful numbers man Brendan), Relativity settled on March 16th, 2012 as the opening date for this project.

INGLORIOUS BASTERDS Star Daniel Brühl Eyeing Ron Howard’s RUSH
by Adam Chitwood Posted: July 15th, 2011 at 1:40 pm

It looks like Ron Howard’s next directorial project is getting some major traction. The other day we reported that Chris Hemsworth was in talks to take on the role of James Hunt in Howard’s Formula 1 racing drama Rush, and now Inglorious Basterds star Daniel Brühl is circling the role of Hunt’s rival Niki Lauda. The film follows the heated rivalry between Austrian driver Lauda and British driver Hunt in the 1970’s.

Screen Daily (via The Playlist) reports that the plan is to start filming later this year in Germany and the U.K. once Hemsworth has wrapped Snow White and the Huntsman. Howard will direct from a screenplay by Peter Morgan (The Queen). This is certainly shaping up to be an increasingly intriguing project; Brühl was fantastically sinister as Fredrick Zoller in Basterds and it’ll be nice to see Hemsworth take on a straight drama

New Red Band Trailer for FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS
by Adam Chitwood Posted: July 15th, 2011 at 12:17 pm
Since it’s apparently the year of the sex buddy comedy, a new red band trailer for Friends with Benefits has been released. While I’m a fan of Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, and quite enjoyed director Will Gluck’s Easy A, this movie just looks painfully unfunny. The newest red band trailer really doesn’t do much to change my mind. The highlights (ie. only amusing parts) are Emma Stone and Andy Samberg, but it seems they only appear for small cameo-ish roles. However, Hunter saw the film and enjoyed it—he’s even mentioned in the ad—so maybe it works better as a whole. But I’m not holding my breath.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer. The film also stars Woody Harrelson, Patricia Clarkson and Richard Jenkins. Friends with Benefits opens July 22nd.

First Image of Catherine Zeta-Jones in ROCK OF AGES
by Matt Goldberg Posted: July 15th, 2011 at 7:59 am
Catherine Zeta-Jones is not only set for a comeback to movies, but she’ll also be returning to musicals with Adam Shankman’s adaptation of Rock of Ages. Zeta-Jones will be playing the film’s villain, a character Shankman describes as “if Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant had a love child. She is this hardcore, moral majority, arch-conservative who wants to shut down rock’n roll in the great city of Los Angeles.” Shankman has now tweeted a photo of Zeta-Jones in character and leading the charge to shut down “evil rock stars”.

Hit the jump to check out the image. The film also stars Tom Cruise, Hough, Russell Brand, Paul Giamatti, Alec Baldwin, Malin Akerman, Bryan Cranston, Will Forte, Mary J. Blige, and Diego Gonzalez Boneta.
