New Images from SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS and CARNAGE; First Look at Ben Kingsley in THE DICTATOR
by Matt Goldberg Posted: July 12th, 2011 at 8:19 am

New images from Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Carnage have gone online along with some new set photos from Sacha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator. The Holmes images provide us with our first good look at Jared Harris as Moriarty (unless you count a tiny, blurry version of him in the background of this poster as a “good look”). The new image from Roman Polanski’s Carnage hints at the tension between two sets of parents (John C. Reilly and Jodie Foster are the parents of a child who has a schoolyard altercation with the child of Christoph Waltz and Kate Winslet’s characters). Finally, there are some amusing new set photos from The Dictator where we see Cohen’s character protesting the dictator version of himself. One of the images also shows a glimpse of Ben Kingsley who looks like he’s in league with the Dictator character.

Hit the jump to check out all the images. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens December 16th. No release date has been announced for Carnage. The Dictator is due out May 11, 2012.

Bruce Campbell Says EVIL DEAD 4 Is Finally in the Works
by Matt Goldberg Posted: July 12th, 2011 at 7:36 am

Fans of the Evil Dead franchise have been clamoring for a fourth film for decades. They’ve imagined Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash and they’ve taken comfort in the Evil Dead-style “spookablast” of Sam Raimi’s Drag Me to Hell. But hard news of an actual sequel has been scarce. However, today offers the most promising news yet for Evil Dead 4. Dread Central reports that editor Bob Murawski (Army of Darkness) has gone to Detroit to begin work on the project, which will be “a small indie thing like the first two.” But when star Bruce Campbell was questioned by a fan on Twitter about the project’s veracity, he responded, “Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.”

I believe the correct response to that news is “Groovy.” Hit the jump for my thoughts on the sequel.

First Teaser Poster for THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
by Jason Barr Posted: July 11th, 2011 at 8:30 pm

The first official teaser poster for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises has landed online and, in doing so, has successfully made my night. While I’ll shy away from over-analyzing the sheet, I will say it looks to be making use of the dream imagery so important to Nolan’s previous film, Inception, while simultaneously reminding me that my Summer 2012 wedding has some competition for my “most anticipated” summer event (I’m joking…for the most part).

Hit the jump to check out the poster. Opening on July 20th, 2012, The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, and Morgan Freeman. Also, be sure to check back here for the film’s teaser trailer which is expected to debut later this week with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2.

John Cusack Replaces Tobey Maguire in Lee Daniels’ THE PAPERBOY
by Jason Barr Posted: July 11th, 2011 at 8:13 pm

John Cusack has signed on to star in Oscar-nominated director Lee Daniels’ (Precious) adaptation of the 1995 Pete Dexter novel, The Paperboy. Cusack replaces Tobey Maguire who was forced to drop from the pic as a result of scheduling conflicts with The Great Gatsby. Zac Efron also stars in The Paperboy with both Nicole Kidman and Matthew McConaughey in “advanced negotiations” to join the project as well.

Dexter’s novel is set in Florida and centers on a pair of brothers who team-up to investigate the potential wrongful conviction of a death-row inmate. Per Variety, Cusack will play the prisoner in question. The thesp can next be seen in a pair of thrillers The Factory and The Raven which hit theaters on December 19th, 2011 and March 9th, 2012 respectively. For more on The Paperboy, hit the jump to check out a synopsis for Dexter’s novel.

Johnny Depp’s Infinitum Nihil Teams Up with Disney for THE NIGHT STALKER and a Film Based on Paul Revere’s “Midnight Ride” with Depp to Potentially Star
by Adam Chitwood Posted: July 11th, 2011 at 6:27 pm

Johnny Depp and Disney are now confirmed BFFs. The actor has made about a bajillion dollars for the studio with the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and now Depp’s production company Infinitum Nihil is teaming up with the Mouse House on two potentially Depp-starred projects. The two studios are developing an adaptation of the 1970’s TV movie The Night Stalker, and a period drama about Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride to warn the Colonial militia about the British invasion (of the non-Beatles sort).

The Night Stalker focused on tabloid reporter Carl Kolchak, whose investigations always lead to perpetrators of the supernatural sort (vampires, werewolves, etc.). The character was later spun-off into his own ABC series. Deadline reports that Infinitum Nihil partner Christi Dembrowski will produce. Hit the jump for more details.

Johnny Depp and Julian Schnabel Plan IN THE HAND OF DANTE
by Jackson Cresswell Posted: July 11th, 2011 at 1:57 pm

You know what Johnny Depp needs? More work. The constantly-busy actor, who is currently attached to four upcoming projects is now partnering with director Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) to adapt author Nick Tosche’s novel In the Hand of Dante into a film. But in an interview with The Playlist, Schnabel points out that there’s no time table for the project right now.

“It belongs to Johnny, but I’m not going to make it for a couple of years. We’re gonna work on writing it, developing it. We didn’t sign anything. It’s just something Johnny asked me to read and I think it’s a great book…”

Depp’s interest in adapting the novel is no surprise as his production company Infinitum Nihil, bought the rights to the book in 2008. So what is the book about? Well Schnabel sums the story up thusly, “It’s about everything.” To read more, including what the book is actually about, hit the jump.
