THE LONE RANGER Adds Helena Bonham Carter, Barry Pepper, and Dwight Yoakam

It looks as if director Gore Verbinski’s (Rango) take on The Lone Ranger may soon be upping its cast by three. Already starring Armie Hammer in the title role, Johnny Depp as his trusty sidekick Tonto, and Tom Wilkinson as a railroad tycoon, the pic is now close to landing Helena Bonham Carter, Barry Pepper, and country star turned actor Dwight Yoakam. Per Heat Vision, the trio is currently in talks to join the pic as a brothel madam, military officer, and gang leader respectively. Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Disney’s adaptation of the classic character is set to begin shooting in mid-October of this year in Texas and New Mexico.
The Lone Ranger is penned by Ted Elliot, Terry Rossio, and Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road) and will center on the plight of a Texas Ranger (Hammer) who is left for dead by Yoakam’s gang, only to return as the masked title character. As for the film’s potential new additions, Carter can currently be seen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, Pepper has a role in Terrence Malick’s untitled romantic drama with Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, and Javier Bardem, and Yoakam is currently lensing director Billy Bob Thornton’s drama Jayne Manfield’s Car alongside Kevin Bacon, Dennis Quaid, John Hurt, and Robert Duvall. http://collider.com/helena-bonham-carter-lone-ranger-barry-pepper-dwight-yoakam/103390/
Shia LaBeouf Joins Robert Redford’s THE COMPANY YOU KEEP
by Matt Goldberg Posted: July 19th, 2011 at 2:28 pm
Shia LaBeouf will star opposite Robert Redford in the political drama The Company You Keep. Redford will direct from a script by Lem Dobbs (The Limey) based on the novel by Neil Gordon. Per Variety, “Redford will play a former Weather Underground militant wanted by the FBI for 30 years who must go on the run when a young, ambitious reporter exposes his true identity. LaBeouf will play the budding journalist who’s determined to make a name for himself.” Since the film revolves around an obvious political subtext, I expect Redford will be as clumsily condescending and pedantic as he was with Lions for Lambs and The Conspirator.
Earlier this year, LaBeouf was filming on John Hillcoat’s Prohibition-era drama The Wettest County in the World. He’s also been linked to the Vietnam War drama Pinkville, the historical comedy/drama College Republicans, and adaptations of Joe Hill’s Horns and John Grisham’s The Associate. http://collider.com/shia-labeouf-robert-redford-company-you-keep/103376/
New Clips for RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES and CONAN THE BARBARIAN
by Matt Goldberg Posted: July 19th, 2011 at 10:26 am
New clips have gone online for Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Conan the Barbarian. The Planet of the Apes clip does a fantastic job of highlighting the incredible detail in the facial animation for Caesar (played via motion capture by Andy Serkis). We’ve seen glimpses of that detail before in trailers, but watching how the character’s expressions change over the course of a scene is really amazing stuff. Also, having Caesar build a model Statue of Liberty is a nice touch.
As for the Conan clip, we see Lil’ Conan show he’s the baddest ass of all the young barbarians even though he’s shorter and doesn’t have a stylish white fur coat. The Conan clip is red-band for the crazy violence, but you’ll watch it because it has a 12-year-old kid smashing apart a guy’s kneecaps. Hit the jump for the clips. Rise of the Planet of the Apes opens August 5th. Conan the Barbarian opens in 3D on August 19th. http://collider.com/rise-planet-apes-conan-barbarian-movie-clips/103324/
