James McTeigue to Direct MESSAGE FROM THE KING [UPDATED]
by Adam Chitwood Posted: July 20th, 2011 at 11:22 am
FilmNation Entertainment has set V For Vendetta director James McTeigue to helm Message from the King. The film centers on an outsider who comes to LA to investigate the sudden disappearance of his sister. Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell (Unknown) scripted the thriller. McTeigue recently directed the Edgar Allen Poe-centered thriller The Raven starring John Cusack and Luke Evans. It appears that things went well with the production, as FilmNation also financed that project and has now quickly set McTeigue for Message from the King. No other details on the film are known at this point besides that basic logline. The Raven opens March 9th, 2012.

DREAM HOUSE Trailer [Updated with New Images]
by Jason Barr Posted: July 20th, 2011 at 11:18 am
The trailer for Oscar-nominated director Jim Sheridan’s (In the Name of the Father) Dream House has landed online. Starring Daniel Craig, Rachel Weisz, and Naomi Watts, the film centers on a family who move into a new home only to discover that a brutal killing took place in the residence years before. After watching the cut, I’m convinced that it either gives too much away or is brilliant in its misdirection. Given the talent of those involved with the pic, I’m inclined to give it the benefit of the doubt for now.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Dream House opens later this year on September 30th. [Update: We've been sent some new images from the film which you can find after the jump]
Alex Proyas’ PARADISE LOST Starring Bradley Cooper to be Filmed Using Motion Capture; Set for Late 2013 Release
by Adam Chitwood Posted: July 20th, 2011 at 9:54 am
Some details have been unearthed regarding director Alex Proyas’ (Knowing) adaptation of the 17th century epic poem Paradise Lost. We learned back in May that Bradley Cooper was attached to star, and that the film would include “aerial warfare,” but other than that not much was known about the ambitious undertaking. Well now it looks like the massive production will take place in Sydney, spanning 20 weeks of pre-production, eight weeks of principal photography, and 72 weeks of post-production, with the director utilizing motion capture to make the film.
3D had previously been mentioned as a possibility, but it appears there are currently no plans for the format. Hit the jump for more. http://collider.com/paradise-lost-alex-proyas-motion-capture/103532/
Ben Stiller Set to Direct and Star in Remake of THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY
by Jason Barr Posted: July 19th, 2011 at 11:01 pm
Back in April, we reported that Ben Stiller was in talks to star in the remake of the 1947 comedy/fantasy The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Although no directors were attached to the pic at that time, names like Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, and Gore Verbinski were being thrown around. Flash forward three months and reports are filing in that the director search has finally landed on a familiar name: Ben Stiller. Per Twitch, Stiller will pull double duty as star and director of the remake which 20th Century Fox reportedly wants to have in front of cameras around January 2012.
For those unfamiliar, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty originally starred Danny Kaye in the title role as well as Virginia Mayo and Boris Karloff. The pic centers on Walter Mitty, a magazine proofreader who is incapable of standing up for himself in the real world, so he retreats to a fantasy where he becomes his poised, confident opposite. As for Stiller, his previous feature directorial output includes: Tropic Thunder, Zoolander, The Cable Guy, and Reality Bites (all of which he also had roles in). He can next be seen wearing his acting hat alongside Eddie Murphy, Matthew Broderick, and Casey Affleck in director Brett Ratner’s action/comedy Tower Heist due out on November 4th of this year. Ron Howard and Dustin Lance Black Team Up To Adapt UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN for Warner Bros.
by Jason Barr Posted: July 19th, 2011 at 7:36 pm
The great thing about being Ron Howard (aside from that sweet beard pictured above) is that when one of your projects gets shot down, you don’t have to worry about whether or not you’ll land on your feet. Case in point: only one day removed from Universal passing on his ambitious adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower, the Oscar-winning director has already landed another gig. Per Deadline, Howard will join forces with Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk) on Warner Bros. adaptation of the Jon Krakauer novel Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith. Briefly, Heaven tells the story of a pair of brothers who murder their younger brother’s wife and infant daughter only to claim they were acting on orders from God.
Howard will also co-produce the pic alongside his Imagine cohort Brian Grazer. Jason Bateman, Stephanie Davis, and Shannon Costello will co-produce as well. In addition to Heaven, you may remember that Howard also has Rush starring Chris Hemsworth and a Spy vs. Spy adaptation waiting in the wings. As for Black, he penned the script for director Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Naomi Watts, Armie Hammer, and Josh Lucas. Warner Bros. releases that pic on October 21st.
