Jack Black, Nicolas Cage, and Steve Carell in Talks for Charlie Kaufman’s Musical FRANK OR FRANCIS

by Brendan Bettinger   Posted: July 22nd, 2011 at 12:50 pm

Jack Black, Nicolas Cage, and Steve Carell are in talks to star in Charlie Kaufman’s next directorial feature, Frank or Francis.  Kaufman is also brewing another collaboration with his Being John Malkovich/Adaptation director Spike Jonze with Joaquin Phoenix attached to star — until today, that seemed to be in pole position on Kaufman’s slate.  However, Deadline says Frank or Francis is tentatively scheduled for a 2012 start, a more definitive date with more bankable stars than Phoenix circling.
Details are mostly under wraps, but here’s the logline: “The film chronicles a volatile back and forth between a film director (Frank) and an online blogger (Francis), who takes delight in berating his cinematic talent.”  Oh, and it’s a musical.  More after the jump.

"Crank 3" is a Prequel Without Jason Statham?

Posted: July 23rd, 2011 by Staff

The "Crank" franchise is not very lucrative; the first installment grossed only $27 million domestically, while the sequel performed even worse with $13 million. But for some reason, talks of a third film are happening at Lionsgate.

Amy Smart confirmed these talks last year and now during the San Diego Comic-Con, Efren Ramirez said that "Crank" director Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are planning to soon make an announcement.

"Mark and Brian, who are here [at Comic-Con] for 'Ghost Rider 2' as well, are possibly going to be talking about 'Crank 3,'" said Ramirez. "Either a 'Crank 3' going forward with Jason Statham or going back with a prequel."

Sounds like we may get a "Crank" installment without Statham, who has been busy with lots of high-profile projects lately. Stay tuned.

Plot: Eric (Sudeikis) is a thirty-something party animal famous among his close circle of friends for his lavish summer theme parties at his father's swanky Hamptons pad. But when members of the crew start settling down, and Eric's dad announces plans to sell the beach house, Eric decides it's time for one last bash to go out with a good old fashioned orgy. Idris Elba the Favorite to Star in "Luke Cage" Movie?

Posted: July 23rd, 2011 by Staff

There are many actors who want to play Luke Cage in a film that Marvel has been planning, including Isaiah Mustafa, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Brian J White, Tyrese Gibson and Idris Elba.

Some of the actors have spoken to Marvel, but it seems that Elba is the studio's favorite. During the San Diego Comic-Con, Elba was asked what projects he would like to appear in. He took a deep breath and a dramatic pause, and then said in a deep voice: "Luke Cage."

The crowd went wild. Elba added: "We [Marvel] just need to know that you [the fans] want that."

Sounds like Elba is speaking on Marvel's behalf, which may mean that he has discussed the project with the studio and the two are now seeing if the fans want a "Luke Cage" film.

Bel Ami Trailer Helps Women Live Out Their Robert Pattinson Seduction Fantasies

published: 2011-07-22 17:27:41 Author: Josh Tyler
This trailer for Bel Ami gets it. The movie stars Robert Pattinson and someone involved somewhere in their marketing department seems to not only understand who he is, but who his audience is. Robert Pattinson is the girl-crush of every woman who has ever read or will read a romance novel. Women want to fantasize about being seduced by him, bedded by him, swept off their feet by him. So the first trailer for Bel Ami is nothing but a series of sequences in which Robert Pattinson does that to a series of different women of all ages.

The first trailer for Bel Ami covers Robert Pattinson’s entire seduction demographic from young (Christina Ricci) to middle-aged (Uma Thurman) to much more than middle-aged (Kristin Scott Thomas). It’s as if someone walked into Comic Con’s Hall H during the Twilight panel, wrote down what everyone there wanted, and walked out to craft a trailer for Bel Ami which would satisfy that.

Ladies, live out your Pattinson fantasies in the video below:
