First Look at Brad Pitt in WORLD WAR Z

by Matt Goldberg    Posted: July 5th, 2011

The first set photos of Brad Pitt in Marc Forster’s adaptation of Max Brooks’ horror novel World War Z.  The scene being shot took place in Israel, which, in the book, is the only country to close its borders and initiate a countrywide quarantine.  The novel follows the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse from the perspective of survivors as varied as mercenaries, US government officials, and impoverished Palestinians.  Paramount is positioning the film as one of their 2012 tentpoles and you can see that they’re not afraid to spend some money on this flick.
Hit the jump to check out the set photos and a synopsis of the novel.  World War Z also stars Mireille Enos, Anthony Mackie, and James Badge Dale.

Jason Statham Considered for "Transformers 4" Lead?Posted: July 5th, 2011 by Staf

"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" hit theaters over the weekend and is already a huge success. Both Michael Bay and Shia LaBeouf have no plans to return for a fourth installment, but Paramount Pictures won't simply let a major franchise die or even let too much time pass before getting to work on a new film.

ShowbizSpy has learned that the studio is not trying to convince LaBeouf to reprise his role, instead Jason Statham is being considered as the star of "Transformers 4."

"One of the stars being mentioned is Rosie Huntington Whitely's boyfriend Jason Statham," said an insider. "It's clear the franchise still has huge potential but with a new leading man capable of taking 'Transformers' in a new, darker direction. Jason could be just the man to do that and his relationship with Rosie would be an added bonus in marketing the movie."

Spike Lee In Talks To Direct Remake Of Oldboy?

published: 2011-07-05 22:42:44 Author: Eric Eisenberg
November 10, 2009 was a fantastic day for film fans everywhere. Why, you ask? Because the planned remake of Park Chan-wook's epic Oldboy, set to be directed by Steven Spielberg and star Will Smith, was officially cancelled as DreamWorks and Mandate Films couldn't work out the rights for the original manga. While we obviously can't make generalizations about how bad the film would have been, I do think that it's safe to say that the world is a better place without a remake of that amazing film. If only Hollywood would take a lesson from Fred Gwynne in Pet Sematary: sometimes dead is better.

Twitch has learned that not only is Oldboy being given new life, but Spike Lee (of all people) is now in talks to direct it. Talks about an American remake have been circling since 2008. In the South Korean original, a man named Ho Dae-su is kidnapped and held as a prisoner in a small cell for 15 years. Never knowing why he was captured, he's then released, given new clothes, some money and a cell phone. Hunting down the man who held him captive and seeking both answers and revenge, it's revealed that there is a much larger plan in play. Mark Protosevich, whose credits include Thor, I Am Legend and The Cell, has been hired to write the script and Doug Davison and Roy Lee will be producing the film through Mandate Pictures.

I truly don't understand why this needs to happen. In the eight years since the film's initial release it has spread rapidly through word of mouth, has reached the rank of #95 on IMDb's Top 250 and is available for anyone to watch on Netflix instant. Why in hell do we need an English language version of this movie? Sure, Spike Lee is a much more interesting choice for the project than Spielberg and we can only hope that Smith has left the project to the past, but this is a complete waste of time, effort, skill and money for anyone that's involved with the production. Just let it go.

Clark Gregg And Rachel Bilson Join The To Do List, Formally Known As The Hand Job

published: 2011-07-05 21:03:48 Author: Eric Eisenberg
There are some projects that go into pre-production with titles that you just know you'll never see on a poster at the local cinema. From A Couple of Dicks (changed to Cop Out) to Fuckbuddies (changed to No Strings Attached), there's a certain point where the studio or the MPAA steps in to wag their fingers and shake their heads. When it was first announced that a comedy called The Hand Job was being developed, a clock began ticking away the moments until the title was finally the changed. While that time has come, the good news is that the film has added two new cast members.

The Playlist has learned that Clark Gregg and Rachel Bilson have joined the film, which will henceforth be known as The To Do List. Written and directed by Maggie Carey, the cast already includes Aubrey Plaza, Bill Hader (Carey's husband), Andy Samberg, Alia Shawkat, Mae Whitman, Johnny Simmons, Donald Glover, Connie Britton, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Scott Porter, D.C. Pierson and Dominic Dierkes. The plot centers on a young, straight-A student about to graduate high school (Plaza) who decides that she is going to spend the summer before college gaining as much sexual experience as she can. The title refers to the list of all the sexual acts she wants to do. While it's not official, the site believes that Gregg will be playing Plaza's father while Bilson will be her older sister. Production is expected to begin shortly, as Plaza and Glover's NBC comedies, Parks and Recreation and Community, are scheduled to begin shooting their next seasons at the end of the summer.

While the film's cast is absolutely outstanding (easily the best collection of young funny people working today), there's always the possibility that the project will try to do to much as it can to best utilize the entire cast and end up a mess. That said, the movie's premise is fantastic and proper execution could make it a hit.

Jerusha Hess Teaming With Stephanie Meyer For Austenland, Starring Keri Russell

published: 2011-07-05 17:15:24 Author: Eric Eisenberg
As much as I hated everyone saying "Yeah baby, yeah" after Austin Powers and "Very nice!" after Borat, the incessant quoting of Napoleon Dynamite turned my opinion about the film from "mildly enjoyed" to "actively hate." Because everyone and their grandmother could recite the script on que, the whole film suffered from incredible over-exposure. In the years since the duo behind the film, Jared and Jerusha Hess, haven't experienced the same level of success, neither Nacho Libre or Gentleman Broncos receiving the same level of praise from critics. Now it seems the two are ready to start working on separate projects, for for Jerusha that project is Austenland.

THR reports that Jerusha, who is also Jared's wife, is heading out on her own to make her directorial debut and will have Twilight writer Stephanie Meyer serving as her producer. A romantic comedy, the plot revolves a thirty-something woman who is completely in love with Colin Firth's version of Mr. Darcy in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. The obsession ends up ruining her life, as there is no man in her world that can stack up. Keri Russell, JJ Feild and Bret McKenzie have signed on to star while the supporting cast includes Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Seymour, Rupert Vansittart and James Callis. The project was co-written by Hess with Shannon Hale, who wrote the book that the film is based on. Production on the film is scheduled to begin this week.

Some may scoff at the idea of Meyer extending her reach in the film world beyond the Twilight franchise, but when you think about it this film is a perfect fit for her. You know where you can a whole shitload of thirty-year-olds obsessing over a fictional character? In the Twilight aisle of your local Barnes and Nobel.
