Angela Workman is currently working on a script for executive producer David Fincher that centers on the life of American photographer Dorothea Lange. According to Variety, the biopic will chronicle “[Lange's triumph] over physical disability to capture iconic images of unemployed workers and dispossessed farmers during the Great Depression.” As legend has it, the photographs inspired John Steinbeck as he wrote The Grapes of Wrath.Leslie Dektor is on board to direct the indie. Willem Dafoe and Rob Kazinsky Join Guillermo del Toro’s PACIFIC RIM
by Brendan Bettinger Posted: July 28th, 2011
Rob Kazinsky had to drop out of The Hobbit in April for personal reasons, but he is again ready for a tentpole. Variety reports Kazinsky has joined the cast of Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim as a member of the team fighting alien invaders. Moreover, Willem Dafoe is in early talks to play a “rogue scientist with expertise on alien creatures.” Sounds like perfect casting. Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Charlie Day, and Max Martini also star.
After a couple of false starts, Del Toro is chomping at the bit to shoot his next movie in November. To give you an idea of what’s in store, Del Toro has called it “the biggest giant monster movie ever made“ and promised “the finest fucking monsters ever committed to screen” at Comic-Con. Pacific Rim is scheduled for release on July 12, 2013. http://collider.com/willem-dafoe-rob-kazinsky-pacific-rim/106510/
Kevin Bacon to Play the Villain in R.I.P.D. Opposite Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges
by Adam Chitwood Posted: July 28th, 2011Apparently Kevin Bacon had fun being all evil in X-Men: First Class, because the actor is looking to take on the villain role in the supernatural comic-book adaptation R.I.P.D. Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges are set to star in the film which centers on a cop who’s recruited by a team of deceased lawmen after he’s killed on-duty. Reynolds plays the recruit, and sets out with the “Rest in Peace Department” to find the man who murdered him. Bridges plays Reynolds’ new partner, a gunslinger who has been dead for hundreds of years.
Variety reports that Bacon is in final negotiations to take on the villain role in the pic, which Robert Schwentke (Red) is directing. Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (Clash of the Titans) penned the screenplay. Bacon is currently filming Billy Bob Thornton’s return to the director’s chair Jayne Mansfield’s Car. Universal has slated R.I.P.D. for June 28th, 2013.

Antoine Fuqua to Direct Crime Spree Pic STORMING LAS VEGAS
by Adam Chitwood Posted: July 28th, 2011Summit Entertainment has acquired the rights to John Huddy’s too crazy to be fiction true crime tome Storming Las Vegas, and Deadline reports that the studio has attached Antoine Fuqua (Brooklyn’s Finest) to direct. The book tells the story of Jose Vigoa, a Cuban-born commando veteran of the Soviet Army who went on a violent 16-month crimes spree in Las Vegas targeting some of the Strip’s most famous institutions.
Vigoa’s stint occurred in the late 1990s, at a time when the city was attempting to re-brand itself as a family-friendly vacation destination. A 23-year veteran of the police force was charged with finding and capturing the men responsible for the spree, without letting news of the robberies affect the city’s image. Fuqua is currently also (kind of) attached to the Tupac biopic, though that production’s gone through a number of starts and stops. No word on who’s scripting Storming Las Vegas or how soon the film might go into production. Hit the jump for a synopsis of the novel. http://collider.com/antoine-fuqua-storming-las-vegas/106418/
Poster for TRESPASS Starring Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman; Film Opens October 14th and Hits VOD and DVD Less than Three Weeks Later?
by Matt Goldberg Posted: July 28th, 2011
The last we heard of Joel Schmacher’s hostage thriller Trespass was back in October 2010 when plenty of images from the film were released. The movie then went surprisingly quiet considering it starred Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman plus a solid supporting cast that included Ben Mendelsohn (Animal Kingdom) and Liana Liberato (Trust). Then in June it was picked up by Millennium and presumably it was going to get a solid theatrical release. Now it looks like it went quiet for a reason. Movieline picked up a now-deleted tweet that showed the first poster for the film. The poster’s a little bland but a new poster is a sign of life, right? Well yes and no. At the bottom of the poster the release date is listed as October 14th but VideoETA and Amazon say the movie hits DVD and VOD on November 1st. That means that the theatrical release will likely be limited to the major markets.
While we’ll wait for official confirmation on this one, it does fit with why we’ve heard so little on this film and the fact that Schumacher hasn’t made a good movie since 2000′s Tigerland. While it’s nothing new for a movie with name actors to head straight to DVD, I’m now curious to see exactly how bad it had to be to send it dump it on VOD so soon after a theatrical run. In the meantime, hit the jump to check out the poster.
