George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s production company Smoke House Pictures is developing a film about the Wall Street bailout, based on the 2009 Washington Post article “The $700 Billion Man.” Said man is Neel Kashkari, the steward of $700 billion set aside for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) in 2008 to bail out failing banks following economic collapse. The experience wrecked Kashkari. He resigned after 7 months in Washington, D.C. and moved to a remote cabin in Northern California.

According to Variety, Clooney is considering The $700 Billion Man as a possible directing vehicle. Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction) will write the script. Read more about the story after the jump.

George Clooney to Direct Wall Street Bailout Film

George Clooney has signed on to produce a Wall Street bailout film, based on a 2009 Washington Post article called "The $700 Billion Man." Project is being developed as a potential directing vehicle for Clooney.

The article is about TARP mastermind Neel Kashkari, a top official under then-Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, who helped develop the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program which bailed out the big banks following the economic collapse in 2008. Kashkari subsequently left Washington and moved to an isolated cabin in Northern California.

Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction) has been tapped to write the movie.

"Rise of the Planet of the Apes" Trailer is Here!

20th Century Fox has unveiled the trailer for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," starring James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, and Andy Serkis. Check it out below or click here to watch it in hi-def.

Set in present day San Francisco, the origin story deals with the aftermath of man's experiments with genetic engineering that lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. A chimp named Caesar (Andy Serkis) leads the uprising among the apes after having been raised by Lithgow and Franco's father-and-son scientist characters.

"Rise of the Apes" is directed by Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) and is set to hit theaters on August 5th.

Sony Pictures to Co-Finance "James Bond 23" and "James Bond 24"

Sony Pictures and MGM have announced that they will co-finance and distribute the 23rd "James Bond" movie, which is scheduled to hit theaters on November 9th, 2012. The two studios will also take on the 24th installment as well.

"After successfully working on the re-launch of the James Bond franchise with 'Casino Royale' and 'Quantum of Solace,' we could not be more proud or privileged to continue our association with the talented teams at EON and MGM," said Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal.

When Sony released "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace," the films had record-high grosses for the Bond franchise, with "Casino Royale" taking in $599 million in worldwide ticket sales and "Quantum of Solace" generating $577 million.
