Production Officially Begins on Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT; Plus Two New Images and the Official Synopsis
by Dave Trumbore Posted: March 20th, 2011

Though the two-film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel The Hobbit has been fraught with delays and difficulties, Warner Bros. has announced that production has finally started. There were concerns that The Hobbit would leave New Zealand due to a labor strike, but the 3D movies will indeed be shot consecutively against the familiar backdrops from The Lord of the Rings. As a prequel to the award-winning trilogy, The Hobbit takes place in Middle-earth 60 years prior to Frodo receiving The Ring. Instead, the two-part adaptation will follow Frodo’s Uncle Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he is swept up in a quest of his own.

"The Hobbit" Started Filming, See First Official Set Photos
Posted: March 21st, 2011 by Staff
New Line Cinema and MGM have announced that Peter Jackson has started filming "The Hobbit" prequels in Wellington, New Zealand. In addition, Jackson has provided two shots of himself on the set of the new movies. Check them out below.

The two "Hobbit" films, with screenplays by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson, will be shot consecutively in digital 3D using the latest camera and stereo technology.

"The Hobbit" follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever ... Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities ... A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

20th Century Fox Wants a Comedy Director for "Deadpool"
Posted: March 21st, 2011 by Staff

"Zombieland" writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have apparently finished a draft of the "Deadpool" script. Just recently 20th Century Fox was getting serious about finding a director and getting the project in front of the cameras.

Ryan Reynolds, who played the character in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," was set to return with Robert Rodriguez in talks to direct. Eventually everything fell apart and Reynolds went on to other projects.

Now comes word from David Slade (30 Days of Night) that he was considering helming the film, but eventually decided to sign on for the studio's "Daredevil" reboot. He now revealed on his Twitter account that Fox is searching for comedy directors to tackle "Deadpool."

"Love DEADPOOL. [I] was never engaged in the (quite fantastic) script," he wrote. "Last I heard studio was looking at comedy directors. None of my business."

Mark Ruffalo Says Marvel Isn't Planning Another "Hulk" Movie
Posted: March 21st, 2011 by Staff

In an interview with TotalFilm, Mark Ruffalo revealed that while there are plans for more "The Avengers" installments, there have not been any talks of another "The Incredible Hulk" film.

"There will probably be a couple more 'Avengers' movies, which would be fun to do," he said. "I don't know if they will ever do another 'Hulk.' How old is The Hulk meant to be? Six years from now I will be in my 50s."

About a year ago, "The Incredible Hulk" director Louis Leterrier said that if the Hulk appears in "The Avengers," that would ruin the future of the "Hulk" franchise. "In the world where Avengers exist, the 'Hulk' sequel wouldn't make sense," he said. "Because if Hulk wreaks havoc, the Avengers would come and stop Hulk."

Henry Cavill Lifting Weights and Fight Training for "Superman" Reboot
Posted: March 21st, 2011 by Staff

In an interview with ScreenRant, director Zack Snyder (Watchmen, 300) revealed that Henry Cavill is putting on muscle and learning to fight for the upcoming "Superman" reboot.

"Henry is gonna be hitting the iron pretty hard," he said. Producer Deborah Snyder added: "They've put him on a plan. He has started in England and as of April 1st we have him full time with us for all that training."

Cavill is getting in shape with the help of Mark Twight, who trained all the actors in "300." Meanwhile, Damon Caro ("300" fight choreographer) will be teaching the actor how to fight.

All this confirms Snyder's earlier comments, in which he stated that Superman will be very physical.

David Slade on "Daredevil" and "Wolverine 2"
Posted: March 21st, 2011 by Staff

Director David Slade (30 Days of Night, Hard Candy) has been doing a bit of catching up on his Twitter account, giving quick updates on the "Daredevil" reboot and "Wolverine 2."

"We have a great outline for a very strong character driven take on Mr. Matt Murdock," Slade wrote about "Daredevil." "It will bare no relation to the previous 'Daredevil' movie in any way. We are at early planning stages and have not yet discussed any cast."

He will be keeping himself busy with "Daredevil" and "The Last Voyage of Demeter," so it's unlikely that he'll be signing on for any other projects. But just to clear things up, Slade wrote that he will not be directing "Wolverine 2," despite being considered before Darren Aronofsky became attached.

"WOLVERINE, there have been no discussions about this project to date," said Slade. "Interesting to see what will happen with that as the again excellent script by Chris McQuarrie was set largely in Japan."
