Anne Hathaway is attached to star in the remake of Barbarella. Er… “attached.” Consider this a rumor for now, since all we know is based on this tweet from Pajiba:
“A. Hathaway latest “attached” to Barbarella. Project currently is without a director.”
Normally I’d assume the quotation marks are a sign of precise language, but given the struggles of this remake to reach the screen, the punctuation could be a bit more cynical in nature. The project was first attempted back in 2007 by Robert Rodriguez, with Rose McGowan in the starring role. Last we checked (admittedly, over a year ago), Robert Luketic (Killers) was on board to direct from a script by Joe Gazzam. If Pajiba’s tweet is to be believed, Luketic is no longer on the project.

Barbarella (Jane Fonda), an interstellar representative of the united Earth government in the 41st century, is dispatched to locate scientist Durand Durand, whose positronic ray, if not recovered, could signal the end of humanity. Outfitted in an array of stunning Star Trek/Bond girl outfits and cruising around in a plush, psychedelic spaceship, Barbarella travels to the Tau Seti system and promptly crash-lands. [AMC]

Fresh off his sure to be Academy Award-nominated role in The Social Network, Jesse Eisenberg has chosen the indie comedy Free Samples as his next project. TheWrap reports Eisenberg will star alongside Jess Weixler (Teeth), Jason Ritter (The Event), Tippi Hedren (The Birds), Halley Feiffer (The Messenger), Keir O’Donnell (When in Rome), Jocelin Donahue (The House of the Devil), and Matt Walsh (The Hangover). Hit the jump for more on the project.
From director Jay Gammill (Hello, My Name is Charlie), the film centers on a law school dropout, played by Weixler, who fills in as a food server on a friend’s food truck. Stuck in a frustrating job, the girl finds herself being courted by Eisenberg’s character. In what’s described more as a supporting role, Eisenberg plays a young man who the girl barely remembers from the night before. The flick gets its title from the fact that Weixler’s character begins doling out free samples of ice cream.
Eisenberg most recently completed filming Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer’s film 30 Seconds or Less and will next be seen (or heard, rather) in 20th Century Fox’s animated film Rio. I like that Eisenberg’s still willing to take on a supporting role in a small indie film after the massive success he’s achieved so far (and especially given his recent award-worthy status). All I ask is that when Fleischer comes calling for Zombieland 2, he drops whatever he’s doing and gets on it.
