Trailer and Poster for THE EAGLE Starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell

Focus Features has released the first trailer and poster for The Eagle.  While I love me a good sword-and-sandals flick, I’m slightly worried about The Eagle due to Focus repeatedly kicking the movie down the schedule.  Also, the bloody mayhem of Centurion, which also involves the mysterious disappearance of Rome’s 9th Legion (The Eagle was originally titled “The Eagle of the Ninth“), won’t likely be repeated in Kevin Macdonald’s PG-13 flick.  But I’ve liked Macdonald’s previous work (State of Play, The Last King of Scotland) and Jamie Bell is a great actor.  I wish the same could be said of his costar Channing Tatum, but perhaps The Eagle will turn me around the guy.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer and the poster.  The Eagle opens February 25, 2011.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Eagle:
In 140 AD, two men – master and slave – venture beyond the edge of the known world on a dangerous and obsessive quest that will push them beyond the boundaries of loyalty and betrayal, friendship and hatred, deceit and heroism…The Roman epic adventure THE EAGLE stars Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell and is directed by Academy Award winner Kevin Macdonald. 20 years earlier, Rome’s 5,000-strong Ninth Legion, under the command of Flavius Aquila, marched north carrying their treasured golden Eagle emblem. They never returned; Legion and Eagle simply vanished into the mists. Hearing a rumor that the Eagle has been seen in a tribal temple in the far north, Flavius’ son Marcus (Tatum), determined to restore the tarnished reputation of his father, is galvanized into action. Accompanied only by his slave Esca (Bell), Marcus sets out into the vast and dangerous highlands of Scotland – to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father’s memory, and retrieve the hallowed Eagle. Along the way Marcus realizes that the mystery of his father’s disappearance may well be linked to the secret of his own slave’s identity and loyalty – a secret all the more pressing when the two come face-to-face with the warriors of the fearsome Seal Prince (Tahar Rahim).

Marc Webb’s SPIDER-MAN Reboot Might Reunite Him with Zooey Deschanel

Hope you like rumors, because I have a nice one for you to chew on. If you knew who director Marc Webb was before taking over the Spider-Man reboot, then you likely saw his previous film, (500) Days of Summer. Now that Webb has moved onto a much larger picture, it comes as no surprise that he has gathered quite a nice cast.  We recently reported that Sally Field would be filling in as Aunt May alongside Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben. The latest casting rumor is setting up a reuniting of Webb and Zooey Deschanel, who previously worked together on Summer. Hit the jump for Deschanel’s rumored role and full cast details.

The rumors comes from Showbizspy, who reports that Betty Brant, J. Jonah Jameson’s “Girl-Friday” or do-everything secretary, is the target role for Deschanel. While it’s currently just a rumor, it is given weight by the fact that directors often like working with talent they know. Just ask Leonardo DiCaprio how that is working out for him and Martin Scorsese. Deschanel would be replacing Elizabeth Banks from the original Sam Raimi trilogy, but instead of a background character, the plans are to bring her to the forefront:
“Betty was a minor character in the previous Spidey movies but Marc has big plans for her,” a movie insider told Showbizspy. “He wants a strong performer to carry the role and Zooey fits the bill perfectly. The role is hers if she wants it.”
Brant was originally a love interest and a main character in Spider-Man lore, but has been pushed to the side by Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy. With the news that MJ won’t be in the film at all, that leaves room for a larger role for Brant. All the dominoes are in place. If Deschanel accepts the rumored offer, she would be joining Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) as Spider-Man, Emma Stone (Easy A) as Gwen Stacy, and Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) as Dr. Curt Connors/Lizard. The Spider-Man 3D reboot is set to hit theaters on July 3, 2012. Let us know what you think about this possible casting in the comments below. http://www.collider.com/2010/11/10/spider-man-reboot-zooey-deschanel-marc-webb/

The Weinstein Company has released a new poster for their upcoming drama, Blue Valentine.  The film stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, and tells the story of “love found and love lost told in past and present moments in time.”  The film — directed by Derek Cianfrance — has been gaining awards buzz since it premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, and the poster lets you know that by including a big quote at the top praising the film’s performances.  Blue Valentine has also recently been at the center of some minor controversy after earning an NC-17 rating from the MPAA, which the Weinsteins are currently trying to appeal.  You can hit the jump to check out the poster and synopsis for the film.

Blue Valentine is set to open on December 31st.  Via Yahoo! Movies:

Patrick Fugit and Elle Fanning Join Matt Damon and Scarlet Johansson in WE BOUGHT A ZOO
by Jeff Ames    Posted:November 9th, 2010
With the principals in place, Cameron Crowe and 20th Century Fox are now turning their attention to supporting roles for We Bought a Zoo.  Patrick Fugit (Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant) and Elle Fanning (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) have been brought on to star alongside Matt Damon, Thomas Hayden Church, and Scarlett Johansson, who came aboard last week after hefty negotiations with the studio.
Fugit’s role is under wraps, but Fanning will play an underage minor who works at the zoo and becomes involved with Damon’s onscreen son, Dylan; according to Deadline, Colin Ford (Push) is circling the role of Dylan. Fugit previously worked with Crowe on the director’s semi-autobiographic Almost Famous, where he played Crowe’s onscreen persona. He is currently filming Cinema Verite with Diane Lane and Tim Robbins, set for a 2012 release. Along with Zoo, Fanning is also starring in JJ Abram’s Super 8 and Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt Now and Sunrise (both due out next year). She will next be seen in The Nutcracker 3D set for release November 24.
